What do I have? now with pics.
A little back ground. I Have been a Dodge guy my whole life, I have spent the last 5 years or so offroading Dodge Ramchargers, and just traded a '83 Ramcharger frame and running gear, for a running and driving '71 Chevy long bed " dulley"(?) with a manual trans and 454. What has me puzzled is there are no fenders hanging off the bed the wheels are tucked the bed with wider than normal wheel tubs and about 2 inch rubber fender flairs on the rear. I have'nt brought the truck home yet and dont have pics or looked in the glovebox for an option list. The truck is in fairly good shape with the usual rust in the rockers and cab corners, it was origionaly purchased and owned by a feed and seed company in South Carolina, and from what i can tell im the third owner. Any help with info and what to look for on this thing will be greatly apreciated. David

Re: What do I have?
67 - 72 trucks, GM never installed a pick up box on a daul rear wheel truck, flat bed, or no bed. The rears on those daul rear wheels were not wide, lke on 73 to present day DRW trucks, they were tucked in... as you saw on your new purchase.
Now what I'm wondering, is this a rear axle transplanted in a regular long wheel base truck... or is it a one ton truck with a longhorn bed. Since you are a mopar guy... check out my longhorn site in my signiture so you'll know what I'm talking about. Welcome to the board |

Re: What do I have?
Are the wheelhouses in the bed "tubbed"?

The VIN says it's a 3/4 ton 4x2 assembled in Atlanta, the glove box decal has been painted over. any other info i may be able to come up with to better document it? David

Re: What do I have?
Well dang...it does have a nice look to it but could use some cleaning up. It looks pretty straight. Definitely a modified lwb with tubbed box. I would ditch the rubber mouldings, running boards and find some stepside flanges to cover the extra wheels...duallies are cool! I'd get rid of that gas cylinder rolling around back there too!

Re: What do I have?
Looks like someone made emselves a dually. If you want to take that truck to a drag racing stance. those inner fenders in the back would be perfect for some 15x10 in my preference. it depends on what you want to go with on your truck. Nice to see another Dodge/Chevy guy on here. the "feed n seed" letterin gives the truck a rat rod look lots of potential. Dont let all the rust scare you away, you can build the truck outta the catalog. on the new unique chevy.---Andy

Re: What do I have?
It is just a 3/4 ton with daulie wheels slapped on the back, and some daulie rotors tossed on up front.
Still a very neat truck, and it has later model wheels on it, so you won't have to pay 50% more for the 16.5 inch tires. |

Re: What do I have?
as i recall gm did install a factory dual rear wheel conversion on some trucks. this would be seen on your option code sticker on the inside of your glovebox. i have seen one 9 foot stepside with this option and it was also listed on the option sheet. if not on the option sheet then a later conversion. welcome to the board!

Re: What do I have?
you sure it wasn't a 9 foot stepside bed installed on a daulie cab/chassis truck?
GM books show that no daulies came with pick up beds at all |

Re: What do I have?
This is the link I found in the archives that mentions the 9 footer with a factory dual rear wheel conversion. I'll keep looking for the pics. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=112747
This picture of the inner fender is what sparked my attention. I could be mistaken but It looks like the fenders have been widened as you can see the weld seam on them. The 9 footer had the exact same extension weld seam on its outer fenders, but it also had steps that had an angle welded onto them to match the fender extension.
