Advice wanted for next steps on steering on a '62
A previous owner did a good job of adding power steering to my '62, but the gearbox is leaking (from the top, not the lines). Everything is loose, but it feels like I'm going to have to either cut the shaft (it's junction is welded together) or remove the column to get it out.
Am I wrong, can I further disconnect the rag joint so I can feel more comfortable separating the gearbox from the pitman arm?
At this point, should I just cut the shaft and replace the column with a tilt steering column (which was already on my (ever growing) list)?
Lastly, the steering worked great, but felt off/too quick(?) - possibly due to the larger steering wheel. If I replace the column, I'd likely use a smaller steering wheel. Would anything else be needed to righten the steering (speed)? Different gearing?
