Rocker Box?

How much work is involved with replaceing the rocker boxes? The main part on the bottom of mine have rust holes, and ive heard it is a pain to replace it. It looks like its 3 pieces that make up the box. Any info would be apreciated.

I don't think the rocker boxes would be that hard to replace,BUT it's the stuff that turns up once you open it up. If your reaaaaal lucky, everything else will be OK.

I had no torsion boxes to speak of, sooo every thing was rusty and had tobe replaced.

Post up pics of the area in question, but most times it hides behind it J..

You must be meaning the torsion boxes, their a different animal the rocker boxes.

Rockers consist of an inner & outer rocker panels and the torsion box houses those as well as the torsion rod.

Not so bad to replace any more, they make repro parts for em now.

I was speakin torsion box, just wrong it the said way

with VT, when you said 3 pcs. my mind thought torsion box, but my fingers typed rocker box. This is a failsafe system we have around here for old men that have short term memory loss

At any rate, I think it would be an easy fix, any more questions... J.

Im sure I will have more questions, as Im new to this blazer thing, BUT THAT HELPS. I am planning on replaceing those piececs, the PO filled the inside area with foam insulation, so I cant tell whats going on thru the hole.Right now im adding power steering but that will be on the to do list. The rest of the underside is solid so hopfully it wont be a lot more rust in there, but being in the north east its not likely.

Rueben, removing them is a pain. They have welds in places that are difficult to get at and it will involve a lot of cutting, drilling, chiseling and cussing. Putting the new ones on are a piece of cake. You can do it but I don't want you to think it's gonna be easy to remove, you'll have to work for it...

Some friendly advise.

Take a very good look at your torsion box issues prior to digging in.

The reason for this is that "if" this is a blazer you want to continue driving for awhile, you may want to wait.

It's likely to be the 'tip of the ice-berg' kinda thing and your blazer could end up being under the knife for a long time.

Basically a fair warning.
Been there, done that and see it all the time throughout the board.

Yea, she will be off the road for the winter so that would be the time to do it. I see they have the parts at LMC. Is that the recomended place to order this kind of stuff?

you may open the big-ol-can-o-worms

as I have learned here and now from experience, rust starts from the inside. So if you have holes all the way through its going to be much worse inside there.

maybe just take off the outer rocker and take a peak behind there just to start.(this will ruin the paint at the cuts) I have only taken off NON-factory outers and not factory and they were very simple to get off Factory might be harder to get off clean.

Buy the parts from a board vendor, you'll be supporting the board and may just get a better price.
