Need 1970 Blazer 2wd swap advise - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 1970 Chevy K5 4x4 and would like to remove the 4x4 front suspension and axle to replace w/ 73-87 1/2t Chevy 2wd suspension. I know I have to remove and replace the front cross members but not to sure how to line up and install the 2wd crossmember for a perfect fit and alignment. Any advise is greatly appreciated

welcome to the board.

lots of people have done this conversion, just look in the Builds sub-forum. to answer though, there should be several holes in the frame where the crossmember would line up. there will be 2 holes that you will have to elongate in the frame to accommodate the new crossmember. good luck with it, and post some pics when you get a chance.

If you have to deal with a different drive shaft, I'd use the opportunity to move the engine a little forward in the engine bay.

I have not done this, but I've read that the 2wd crossmember will bolt right up with the exception of 2 holes that will need to be drilled.

I just did this conversion and found the rear 2 outside frame holes line up then I had to drill the other 10 holes.my build is prostreet/dragrace blazer and has some pics of this. Good luck and this is fairly straight foward.I have lots of pics and time if you need a answer or advice.

is the 73+ front cross member identical to the 67-72 units? swapping the setup into a 50's gm you have to narrow the crossmember to get the correct track width and line up with the frame rails. comparing my 72 burb to my dad's 87 burb 2wd it looks almost the same even though my truck is a 3/4 ton.
