Vibration/grinding after lift.

I did not perform the transfer case drop and I think I might need to lengthen the driveshaft. At highway speeds it vibrates like hell.
On another note it started leaking oil like a sieve and if I make a right turn at speed it leaves a trail of smoke.
I am so dropping in another motor(or at least yanking this one.). I tire of working on crap while still on the rig.
Thoughts? Suggestions for rebuilt motors in the Norcal area?
ball park price would be cool as well.

How big is the lift? Did you change the rear pinion angle?

It's a 6" lift. I don't even know how I would go about changing the rear pinion angle.
(My guess is cutting the mounts off and rewelding them at a different angle.)
So "No"
It's an 82 K5 Blazer.
Slip Yoke? I am only aware of one type.
Yeah. New to Domestic trucks at this level.

They are tapered. SO yes.The vibration HAS to be driveline related. Did you extend your driveshaft?

Sorry this is going to be a bit long.

Extending your driveshaft has absolutly nothing to do with the vibration. As a matter of fact I have seen quite a few drivelines destroyed because the drivelines were extended when they did not need to be.

Jack up the truck by the frame and let the axle hang at full droop, if there is at least an inch of engagement at full droop you are fine.

hilljob26 looks like he has a longbed, so DL (drive line) angle would most likely not be a problem. I had an 85 shortbed with custom built 10" springs all the way around. The Blazer has an even shorter DL than the short bed so that may be your problem. You should be fine though.

Things to check (not in any particular order): Slip yoke- is the slip section in the drive shaft or does the end of the drive shaft slide into the TC (transfercase) tailshaft. Check for slop at the tailshaft or slipjoint.

Did you pull the driveshaft apart during the lift? U-joints may be out of phase, they must line up with each other.

U-joints may be shot, be sure to use a quality unit such as Spicer they have more bearings in the u-joint than the cheapies.

You can buy some degree shims from Superlift that bolt onto the spring pack with a new center bolt. Try lining the lower u-joint directly into the driveline or just below it.

Intall the TC drop.

Hope this may help

Re: Vibration/grinding after lift.

Back from the dead.
I had a custom double cage Driveshaft made. It's a beast.
(I'm committed to the damn truck now, was pricy.)
The Vibration has ceased.
After performing the lift the angle was too extreme for the u-joints to handle, also: The driveshaft was not long enough and the slip yoke was sticking out too far.
The vibration issues have been rectified. Now on to the spewing oil.
Thanks to everyone for the input. I've been away a while.
