bb 4X4 install?

I have gone thru post about the good and bad. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is using a 73 and newer 4X4 crossmember and mounts. Since BB's came factory in the 4X4 why wouldn't using these parts solve a lot of issues with the 63-73 swap.
I have used 73-up bb 2wd crossmembers and mounts in a couple of 63-72 trucks with no problems.
Does anybody have any ideas etc, I want to swap a bb in my 67 1/2 4X4.
Thanks,
Steve

We have covered 73up 4x4 engine crossmembers in 67-72 4x4s before, both for BBCs and SBCs. I tried the search, but I think it currently only pulls up threads started since the *forum skin* change.

The 73up 4x4 eng xmembers do bolt into 67-72 4x4s with a little drilling. The rearward 8 holes line right up. Just throw in the 8 bolts and drill the front two holes for the extra portion the 73up xmember has down low in front. Of course, one can relocate the entire xmember along the frame to position an engine as desired.

The 73up xmember brackets are the right height & width and you gain oil pan clearance due to the foward sweep of the xmember which opens up oil pan choices that are very limited using 67-72 4x4 eng xmembers. Also gain the superior clam shell mtr mounts. One thing I haven't worked out is whether the '71/2 PS pump bracket strut that mounts using one of the block motor mount bolts is reusable with the clam shells. But you're going BBC...

Re: bb 4X4 install?

QKSilver you will have to cut 1/2" off the top of the crossmember. As for motor mounts just use the 4 bolt clam shell ones that come with the 73-up crossmembers.
Later Willis
