454 in a 4wd

I remember a post about putting a BBC in a 60-66 4wd, but i did a search and couldn't find it. I think I remember that the motor has to go forward about an inch. I already have the 73-87 style crossmember, and the 465/205 with the crossmember. Gonna use headers for the 73-87 style truck as well. Anything else that I should be aware of?? Figures that I start this just in time for the cold weather and snow.....and trying to do this in a mud driveway....

Re: 454 in a 4wd

I just pulled the 454 out of my 1960 GMC Sub 4x4...couldn't stand the 7-10 MPGs I was getting, going with a small block now. Anyhow, originally I put in a 427 many years ago, and I had to notch the frame on the passenger side for exhaust manifold clearance (stock exhaust manis). I also am running a married 465/205. Good luck on your swap.

Re: 454 in a 4wd

I thought about gas mileage, and no way gonna get it with a big block. But, I'm not building this to get mileage. Right now I just want to get the motor and trans and stuff in and working. Pretty much gonna be running the same combo as you. Going with headers, so hopefully won't need much if any grinding.
