'71 GMC 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive

New to site but want to try and chronicle my build. Always wanted a 67-72 4 wheel drive or blazer. Found a really nice truck, but it's 2 wheel drive. Not new to serious auto/truck mods, so I'm gonna make it happen as time allows. The truck is a 71 GMC with almost no rust. 85k original miles.

Find a K10/20 frame and swap it over would be best bet. Nice truck!

Re: '71 GMC 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive

Bought a donor parts truck. '78 Chevy 1/2 ton. Should have most of what I need as far as parts. Got the front and rear ends stripped out. Going through them now. New brakes, seals, ball joints, etc. Dana 44 steering axle and GM 10 bolt rear (limited slip unit) 3:73 gears. The current plan is to get them in and get the truck drivable again. Then I'll start working on mounting the transfer case and mating it to the trans.

Yes sir, thank you. I was really surprised to find one in this condition. It needs paint and a few other minor things, but the big thing to me was being pretty much rust free.

That is a very nice truck to start with! 3:73 gears should make for a really nice driver too.
