Adjusting kickdown?
Is there a way to adjust the kick down cable on my 70 350 q-jet with a th350?

Right in the fat part of the kickdown cable where it is mounted to the bracket on your intake manifold there is a sliding locking mechanism for adjusting the cable tension. Pull the locking mechanism out to allow the barrel that is inside the fat section to slide freely. Push your throttle linkage to wide open throttle (if your engine is cold, you will first have to open your choke manually by pushing on the choke linkage so the choke won't prevent you from opening the throttle all the way). While holding your throttle wide open, push the sliding locking mechanism back into place. Basically the kickdown cable should be pulled all the way at wide open throttle.

Hope I'm not stealing the thread here, but, what if the kick down cable, adjusted as you say, does not engage passing gear at WOT? Mine has tension, and pulls all the way out, but still no passing gear. Any ideas?

Steve, are you sure the cable is properly attached inside the tranny?. I bought the wrong cable for my truck and it would never downshift. I finally got a high quality universal cable at the local tranny shop and it kicks like a mofo now!

Yes Jim...it's attached and hooked up inside. I got this tranny from my son, and he had Jim Jennings Transmissions (In Essex) rebuild it. He (my son) told me he had never hooked it up. So, I'm wondering if somehow the rebuild had by-passed it somehow. I'm not sweating it too much. I have plenty of 350 hp to pull 3rd. Just would be nice to have it working.
