Wheels and tires....

I know this has been talked about a 50+ times and I have read 42 listings on tire and rim size in this forum already so I am not coming here posting without having read first.... I am going to be putting Showwheels --Polished Streeter model rim on the truck. I am debating the size of rim and tire. A little more info on the truck.... I am about to start installing D2600 air bags all 4 corners and will be running 2.5" drop spindles up front. I am NOT looking to lay frame or even close and will be running stock control arms, I haven't decided whether to c notch the rear yet or not. I was debating which combination will be the best, as well as whether they will clear the stock fenders or not. Any thoughts, data, pics, facts, or otherwise is much appreciated. My first choice is Combo 1 but I am concerned with them fitting in the wheel wells without rub. Thanks in advance.

Combo 1
General G Max AS-03 tires
Front: 18x8 (4.5" backspace, 0 offset), 245/45ZR18 which are 26.7" tall
Rear: 20x10 (5.5" backspace, 0 offset) 275/40ZR20 which are 28.7" tall

Combo 2
General G Max AS-03 tires
Front: 18x8 (4.5" backspace, 0 offset), 245/45ZR18 which are 26.7" tall
Rear: 18x9 (5.25" backspace, +6 offset) 255/45ZR18 which are 27" tall

Combo 3
General G Max AS-03 tires
Front 17x8 (4.5" backspace, 0 offset) 245/50ZR17 which are 26.3" tall
Rear: 18x9 (5.25" backspace, +6 offset) 255/45ZR18 which are 27" tall

67C10BUB on the rear tires how is your clearance side to side, would it be wide enough to fit that 45 tall tire in there? That picture really helped thank you.

The 45 series tire will fit. I ran a 295/45 (30.5" tall) on my 2wd Blazer (same rear tubs/axle as a fleetside), so there is room. Most guys run a 295/40 (29" tall) out back with a 255/40-20 up front (28" tall).

Have you looked at pics of 18 front/20 rear combos? They tend to look very nice aired-out, but not so great at ride height. Just something to think about. Streeters are a good choice for price and I have not heard anything bad about quality. Good luck!

EDIT: Just noticed you have a '67. 5.5" backspacing on a 10" rim may be too much on the early narrow rear axle. It would fit perfectly on a 71-72 with the wider rear axle. You should shoot for 5" BS on a 67-70.

I would go with combo number 1. Don't forget to confirm the width of your rear axle. The 67-early 70 are 3/4" narrower on each side then the late 70 to 72. Just a heads up

I think combo #1 I have 20x8 275/35 and 20x10 315/35 front tires are about 27.5 next time will get 275/40 they are about 28" tall and the rear is about 29" tall

I have a 1972 3.07, 5 lug 12 bolt rear axle lined up to buy from another member on here. I will be installing that rear end. on the truck.

So, you're good-to-go with the 5.5 BS and a 45 series tire

I may have missed this ,but what are the plans as far as just how low you want? Set the fenders on top of the wheels or to tuck you wheel choice slightly? Dom 2600's are a nice bag! Mine lays rocker on them and they ride great at any height IMO.

I vote for 20's all the way around.
20x8.5 with a 255/40-20 tire. (5.25" BS)
20x10 with a 295/40-20 tire. (5.50" BS)

To answer The Big Green's question I like the ride height of both of the red trucks above, except I like a little more rake in the stance... I have good friend that I work with on every build and he was a electrician on a nuclear sub in the navy, he is designing and building an touchscreen lcd and programmer that fully controls the air ride and levels the vehicle at preset ride heights based on air pressure and actual height. It will also have manual control to override the presets as desired...
