Help!! 250 to 350 swap, transmission issue!
Hey guys, I haven't been on in a while, but when it came to this issue, i thought "I know the perfect guys to ask!". ANY advice is greatly appreciated! I am swapping my dead 250 l6 for a 350 small block. Its out of a 73 nova. my 250 had a 3 on the tree soo...
question is.... Can i use a late model chevy 5 speed manual transmission on a mid 70's 350 sbc? What mods will i have to make if any? (driveshaft? clutch? bellhousing? mounts? crossmember? etc..) Would it be better to just find an old 4 speed saginaw or something? Thanks guys!!!! |

Re: Help!! 250 to 350 swap, transmission issue!
Yea, i've been thinking about it. I think i would enjoy a 4 or 5 speed in the floor better. I cooould live with the 3 speed for now IF i could move the shifter from the column, to the floor. Do you know of a way to do that? like a kit or something?
Thanks!! |

Re: Help!! 250 to 350 swap, transmission issue!
My original post was lost to cyber space so this will be quick. Avoid the Mr Gasket shifter to include Indy brand. The shifter is made of cheap metal and wears quickly. My old 67 had a ratchet shifter that ate the pins. When it worked it was fun but it skipped the rails all the time. I got to the point that I could unbind them in under 30 seconds at a stop light with two pry bars. With a mild 350 I would suggest a saginaw 4spd trans. There are still alot of them out there and cheap. Last one I bought was only $200. A heck of a deal compared to a muncie. You can aford to grenade one every now and then.
