What's your best tip!
I have learned so much from others on this board and wanted to start a thread and give everyone a chance to put their best tip(s) here. I am going to start of with a tip that is not related to our trucks but one that I learned a long time ago.
"Always ground yourself when you open up a computer case, this will discharge any static electricity and keep you from frying your memory, hard-drive, video card and other internal parts." So I challenge all to post their tips here. For those new to the board there are also some on the Tech Tips section.

A seroius one . . . .
 To go along with the fire extinguisher. Keep a good heavy pair of wire cutters in the glove box. To cut Battery cable when an elecrical fire / short occurs.  Darren

hey guys I think Padreisla trying to be serious here, LOL although those are good ones, but on a serious note, and I speak from experience, this is especially for the young guys while you still have good health, wear safety glass,ear protection, hand protection, and most of all use those jack stands, not preaching just hope you do it, words spoken from a half deaf, half blind, scared hands, and don't want to be done in by a truck falling on me type of guy

On Radiator Caps... "Bought yourself a truck, eh? Okay, the first thing you do is put a 12-pound radiator cap on. Got it? No, I don't care what the parts man says it should have. Why? Because it's cheaper and faster than a heater core!" On Buying Engines... "Smoke? Knock? Cheap? Buy it!" On Cutting Dashes for Radios... "If you even THINK about cutting that dash, I will drive up there and kick your ass!" On Wheels... "Put a set of rallys on it and drive, boy!" On Plug Wires... "Do NOT ask the parts man for wires for a small block 350. Tell him you want wires for a mid-70's big block. Why? They're shorter and have straight boots the way God intended!" On Burnouts with Cold Engines... "If I EVER see you do that again..." On Small Block Chevy Timing... "Advance it until it pings or gets hard to start when it's hot then back off just a little bit." here are a few...
NEVER pull the spark plug wire off a small running lawnmower engine with bare hands! NEVER touch the capacitor inside a disposable 35mm camera if you are taking it apart to get the AA battery and film. and lastly, NEVER make fun of someone for accidentally touching an electric fence, then get your clothes caught on it and receive a big zap! It will hurt and they will make fun of you for years to come!

I wanted you all to know that I dragged my wife in here to read some of these posts. I was on the floor laughing reading your posts and my dog was just sitting there staring at me. Go buy a welder. NOW!
I just got in from plowing the driveway. I'm in a new (to me) house with a big driveway. This fall I purchased a used ATV with a snow plow to clear the snow. Tonight was the first time I really needed to use it. About 1/2 way through the job the rod that raises and lowers the plow broke. 30 minutes and about 2.5 inches of threaded rod later I was back in action. AND you can stick new rockers and cab corners on that rusty cab you just bought.

Get a plasma cutter and a good mig.....with these trucks your ganna need'em
if you rub dawn dish washing soap on your hands till it dries before working then all you do is add water and wahlah clean hands. dont look directly at the sun look both ways b'fore crossin' the street carry an extra windshield wiper insert........they always streak or tear when you need them the most. use synthetic oils learn fuel injection.....much cleaner and powerful,,,,,,but I know it aint old skool. like alot of us are I think.

oh and second the urine and electric fence,,,,,,,,, got me with a 5 mile weed burner,,,,,,,running about 1/4 mile of fence. Still sends chills.

wear hearing protection dont drink beer that has under 5% alcohol more is not always better if you dont know what those adjustment screws on your bicycle derailieurs do, dont touch 'em remember to put your knife in your boot before you get to the door of the concert or bar - they never look there always make triple sure which booster cable clamp goes in the right spot! use lots of heat from a propane torch & lots of ReleaseAll when you are working on flarenut fittings on our trucks use a touch of anti-seize on flarenut fittings upon reassembly use dieletric grease on all electrical connections when welding, keep that fire extinguisher closeby levis spelled sideways is elvis!

Never touch anything electrical in your truck unless you know what you are doing.
No matter what anybody says OEM is better than aftermarket 67-72 are the best years of chevy truck!!!!!! The best trucks at auto shows aren't the ones that look nothing like the truck it started out as.

Rear of your hood sticking up can be adjusted down without new hinges if you know the secret.
Disconnect the battery before doing most things on your truck. The best running trucks are rarely the best looking trucks. NEVER trust an e-bay description of truck stuff. Write down or file good ideas before you forget, them for the 10th time. The best calendars are always hanging in some guys dirty old barn, garage or shop. A women who appreciates old trucks/cars is a rare find. IF she is also good looking, then she is really rare. If she has money and likes you~~~~then she is a keeper---at least for the night!! Buy 2 of every good tool you get as you will loose the first one within a few days and not find it for months. It's almost impossible to come up a problem that no one else on this board has had and fixed. Buy low, sell high. There is NO SUCH THING as a rust free 67-72 truck---it's just hidden somewhere that you can't see waiting to come out right after you buy it.

Best jack stands you can find(tall so you don't bang your head)
Big ol fire extinguisher keep a clean shop so you don't catch it on fire to begin with Do wear hearing protection and masks when ness. Do major grinding and welding outside(less mess, easier on ears and less chance of fire(especially in small garages) Cheap tools=fingers that don't work well Find old kitchen cabinets to put in garage, it keeps tools and parts clean and out of prying eyes.

For cleaning your engine and lots of other stuff, Castrol Super Clean is hard to beat - but be careful, it will eat paint to some degree and you ought to wear rubber gloves when working with it.
