63-65 LWB fleetside bed on a 61 ?

Can this be done and if so, what are the differences (fitment-wise) between 60-62 and 63-65 ?

I have what I believe is a 63 or 65 bed to put on my 61, assuming 60-65 we're practically the same. What am I missing here?

Thanks a bunch,
Scott

the bed themselves are the same it is the rails that are different. look at lmc and they should have pictures of the different bed rails.

Good call. Sadly, lmc doesn't show what's different about the sills, just that they are different. :-/

I guess a couple of more questions in the same vein; how do I know which bed I have (I forget what year the truck was it came off of)? Does anyone have a diagram or pictures with comparisons of the sills? Possibly I could modify the ones I have and make them correct for my 61?

I guess one other note, I was assuming that these were of the newer variety b/c they have the reverse lights on the fenders. Does that imply they are in the 63-65 range?

Thanks again!

the back up lights does not mean alot for the following reasons. buckup lights were on late 65 models and all 66 models but alot of people put the backup lights on these beds.

it should only be two rails that are different, alot of the bed rails have a large surface that the hole goes through , most of the time it is off to one side or another leaving room to drill another hole. i would put the bed on and see what lines up and what doesn't should give you a good idea on what you have to do.

Two things, the rear mount is different and the "pads" on the cross sills are different.

You can remove the spot welds on the triangle shaped rear mount and reposition, mar-k has the metal pads you can just tack weld in where they are needed.

60-62 beds are wider (8") I think.

I'll head on over to mar-k and look for those. Thanks!

I got a little concerned with the idea of my year of bed being 8" wider so I checked LMC to see if the tailgate or front bed end panel are all the same part for 60-66. So I might be safe there (I hope). But certainly worth looking into.

Thanks again Clyde75!

The bed is not wider. As stated above, the beds themselves are the same. It is all the cross sills that are different, including the rear. Except for the shallow one directly above the differential. They can all be modified to work if you can not find the correct ones. The bed mounting points on the '60-'62's are farther apart (wider) than on the '63-'72's.

1958-1966 Truck Fleetside Tailgate, Ultimate hinge Trunnion (2 Piece Set) made of Stainless Steel and Delrin.
These are replacement hinge trunnion parts to upgrade your chevy fleetside truck.
These are perfect for the truck restorer!

These are Very quite while opening and closing the tailgate.
You have to reused your original Trunnion hinge plate/bracket as seen in the pictures. Just remove the bolt with lock washer, replace with these stainless steel hinge trunnions and bolt back on your truck.

I recommend power coating or chrome your Trunnion hinge plate before installing these back on it. To prevent further rusting.

Re: 63-65 LWB fleetside bed on a 61 ?

I have a 64 fleet long and it has a earlier year bed on it. I am not sure what year it is, and I did not have any issues when I put it all together. ( it was in pieces when I bought the truck). I used the above trunnions and have had no issues, I got mine from classic industries. I cant remember if it came with hardware or not. I'm thinking no. But as for the bed sides all the body lines line up with the rest of the cab.
