Exclamation Project "Blacked Out" Begins! UPDATE 1/25-08!11

This past weekend I purchased this killer 51 Chevy pick-up complete with half painted panels and no bed. Plan on making it the slickest truck in history with the help of some patch panels, chrome grille, new bed and red leather interior. That seems to be the plan for now! We'll here it is in all its glory along with its red partner that I had to drag home also. Its for sale though if anyone cares!!!!!, lolAttachment 269319

Re: Project "Blacked Out" Begins!

Put the 3-window cab on your chassis and sell the 5-window cab. If you're building a custom, the 3-windows look better, but if you're restoring it, the 5-windows look better. Just my opinion........Good Luck on your project and welcome to the site!

The 3-window is for sale if anyone wants it.

My budgetfor the whole truck is whatever it takes in the next 3 years to finish it.

Re: Project "Blacked Out" Begins!

Looks like a great start! If you're going to drive it a lot, the five window cab is the way to go. However, the 3 window looks more like a HotRod.

Re: Project "Blacked Out" Begins!

Yeah, I do want to drive the truck and the five window cab is great for just that. I am just going to sell the 3-window cab.

Re: Project "Blacked Out" Begins!

The three window cab is for sale, need to fund the project.

500.00 bucks takes the red cab, dri side running board and inner fenders and a box load, I mean a box load of parts, If you buy the cab you can have the inline 6 which I was tols would run with a battery and fuel. Gotta get rid of this cab and stuff, really solid, has a little rust in the side cowls. make me an offer!

Re: Project "Blacked Out" Begins!

O.K. guys my first update. Since purchasing the project I really have not had time to fool with it.

So I began by tearing everything apart. We pulled the engine this past friday along with the trans and seat and other junk. Found a good portion of rust below the towboard (figured that) but anyway.

As for the suspension, I purchased a Total Cost Involved 4-link, Currie 9+ complete rear with disc, Fatman IFS with all polished tubular stuff, ECI 13-inch drilled brakes.

Here are the shots as she now sits....

Re: Project "Blacked Out" Begins!

Cool, Congrats.

I gave $800 for the '51. It did however include perfect painted front fenders, inner fenders, hood, grille, the entire front clip, runningboards, rear fenders. They already painted all of it.

So far I have spent about $8,000 for the chassis parts but once they are in the frame will be finished. I do have to cut out about 12 inches of frame behind the cab and replace it.

here are the new ECI 13 inch brakes

Re: Project "Blacked Out" Begins!

O.K> It has begun.

Pulled the engine the other day and took the truck to my buddies shop G&S Fabrication in Athens, AL 256/232-9512 to help me with the frame repairs. After 9 hours of hard work we repaired the frame and installed the TCI 4-link and Currie 9-inch, man, that frame was rough.

Anyway, here it is!

Re: Project "Blacked Out" Begins!

O.K. guys so I went down to my buddies shop yesterday and Greg, Will and I installed the IFS under the project pick-up which my girlfriend apparently now owns as she has taken over the project. We installed a Fat Man IFS which will feature the ECI 13-inch brakes and coilovers. I cut some struts for the control arms and we tak-welded them into place. The next step will be to install the power rack and c-notches along with coil-overs and then we are going to have it all blasted.
