Roof drip rail question

The roof of my truck has been repaired on the front corners in the past and some rust is popping out again..

Did the drip rails ever have drain holes in them? Mine are always holding water.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Roof drip rail question

My '66 GMC has four in the drip rail that I found and unplugged. Two in the front sides drip into little rain gutters in front of the vent windows. The ones in the rear sides drip behind the door. They're not drilled holes, they're more like piercings or cuts. I'll get some pictures of them and put them up.

I fixed my drip holes, now water only stands in the big dent right on the "step" in the roof. Thanks to the magnificent double walled GMC cab, I'll have to pay somebody with a stud puller (or buy one) to take it out. For $49 more, GMC made some things allot harder to cope with in the long run.

Re: Roof drip rail question

I used a wire wheel and cleaned up the drip rail to find my weep holes. AF is right, they are more like stamped cuts than holes. My rails were filled with caulk I think.

Re: Roof drip rail question

See where it looks like the drip rail is bent out, that's where the piercing is.

Those are the front ones, finger points at there location
Rears are here

Re: Roof drip rail question

Here's the front drip rail drain hole:

Here's the back one:

I'm not responsible for that caulk in the windshield seal. I am responsible for this:

and this: (the light spots are the sun)

So you can clearly see that the top 1" of my truck is in pretty good shape.

I just went and looked at my truck and the little bump isnt even there.. Someone must have tapped it in and sealed it up...

Is it possible some years didnt not have them?

I don't remember seeing them on the front of my 60 either, I'm wondering if that was added when they changed the A pillar for the 64 and up trucks. I just coated the inside of the gutter as best as I could with seam sealer and I've seen where anther member just filled the entire gutter with seam sealer. I'm going to go back and do the same to mine as soon as I can.

Re: Roof drip rail question

My 1960 GMC never had drain holes. I've always assumed these were added with the new cab in 64. That's why I just filled mine up with seam sealer so the water would have no place to collect.

Re: Roof drip rail question

can somebody repost pictures of the drain holes? I just spent a whole day yesterday repairing rusted metal in my cab. I noticed that small rivulets of water are coming down inside back corners which have caused major water damage to the back left and right of the cab corners. Also at front door pillars where it starts to slope up. I am assuming seam sealer is gone....

Re: Roof drip rail question

Sorry I don't have pictures. I cut my drip rail out at the divets (side only, there is still a bottom to the rail) so that there are drains at those locations that can't be filled in. Little to no water stands in the drip rail now.
