Hello...have questions about '65 chevy pickup

Hello everyone. My name is Spanky. Just aquired a '65 chevy pickup, long/wide bed. Truck already has ( I believe...numbers on motor are 3970010 ) a late 70's/early 80's 350 with turbo 350 trans. I need several things. 1st: I want to add power steering. What power steering pump and steering box would be the best to use? 2nd: I need the eye bolts that hold the emergency brake cables...I believe there should be three of them. 3rd: I need the u shaped brackets that connect the e-brake cables from the rear drums to the other cable and all other brackets to connect all this together. Will post pics of truck ASAP.

You will need a power stering box from any '69-'87 2wd pickup, Suburban or Blazer. As for the pump and brackets, you will need those based on what water pump is on your engine. There is a short water pump and a long water pump. The short pumps were used thru '72 on the trucks, and '68 for passenger cars. Another thing to consider is that after about 1980, the hose fittings changed to a metric size with an O-ring. So it would be best to get a box and a pump with the same style of fittings. The pump brackets can be changed to the correct style if need be. Let me know if you want to get a steering box adapter plate.

LMC doesn't sell the u-bolt pieces. FYI: Be sure to price compare before using LMC, they really gouge you on some of their parts....

Thanks for the info. Already checked LMC for the brake stuff. They have the cables but not the eye bolts or, the u-shaped brackets.

Thanks for the info. I was assuming ( yeah, I know what assuming will get you...LOL ) the steering box would just bolt on to the frame. Why is the adapter necessary? Is it an alinement issue? Also, how do I know if the water pump is long or short...is it total width or, distance from front of the block?

The adapter plate makes it so you can bolt the steering box right to the frame, no problems. Get the one from captainfab, its great quality and works like he says it does. If you havent checked his signature, do that, it explains a lot. You also have to shorten the steering shaft, and use some of the steering tie rods and such. Its best to get the whole steering assembly from a donor square body. He also makes a bracket to put an 88-98(i think) Chevy truck booster on your firewall. Also good stuff. Just put both on my truck.

As far as the long or short water pump, as far I know, a short water pump is right up against the timing chain cover, and the long has about enough space to put your hand in between the pump and timing chain cover (approximately)

Youcan also use the whole front crossmember and disc brake set up from a 88-91 suburban.........

Finally got some pics of my truck. Got it up on jack stands because I'm rebuilding the front brakes. Going with new rotors and calipers. The old calipers got stuck and thoroughly trashed the rotors. While I'm at it, I'm gona replace ball joints, tie rods etc.
