posi?
my main question: do i have a posi/limited slip rear end. i have a stone drive way so spinnign the tires is very easy. today i uh "accidentally" floored. this was after backing up and pulling forward a couple times. went behind the truck and both wheels had spun! usually on the right wheel spins! i might have to try it again later just to see if it does it again! the truck seemed like it was twisting when i held on the throttle for a second. is it possible that only both engage sometimes??? and usually on the right engages. i know the only real way to know is to pull the rear diff cover and find out but too lazy right and know and was just wanting some of yalls input. the previous owner said this rear was swapped in because the other rear end wasnt very highway friendly. and i was going to maybe swap in the rear end out of my 72 which is not a posi and im hoping the 70 has the wider rear now so i dotn have to swap the whole setup, just the axles!

I would hold the brake hard and give it full throttle. You should see 2 marks. I think if you jack the rear up and spin the tire by hand , they should both spin in the same direction. Not sure though.

Only problem with holding the brake and doint it the brake tricks the rear into thinking both tires have the samp amount of traction. I've done this is a truck that I know has an open rear and it acted like a posi...

sure-fire way to check is to pop the diff cover...heck, gear oil is cheap and you probably need some new anyways.

jack up the rear end and spin one wheel, if they both spin the same way it's a posi or limited slip, if they spin opposite, its an open diff, just like c10 said

a posi could still spin only one tire if other was on the ground still.. best to get both tires in the air at same time and then spin a tire and wait to see if other spins in same direction. Still if you think its possible, I would still pull the cover and make sure....stuff wears out.

Yep, only way to know for sure is to pull the cover. If the clutches and springs are worn in a posi it will act like an open diff. Have you checked the glove box door to see if it was and option?

What if you park with one tire on gravel and one on the pavement? If the gravel side spins it's... Open? If they both spin it's... Posi? If neither spin... You need more horsepower!
