1972 Custom Deluxe Suburban Barn Yard Find w/o the Barn.

This is your classic barn yard find without the barn yard

This guy bought it from the original owner back in the seventies. I went out to his property with him. He has like five or more acres and over sixty cars and trucks on it. Lots of old 67-72 trucks. I was like heaven without the streets of gold

The burban was originally sold in Montana, and then brought to central oregon. I pulled up the passenger side floor mat and just a little surface rust on the floor. I didn't go any further than that on the floors. Under the doors looked solid. Under the tailgate was solid. I was trying to stick a metal steak into the floors to find weak spots. Nice and solid.

It has two seats. Both are bench. Its the "luxury" style seat... vinyl and cloth.... Sweet. The passenger row seat is perfect. The front bench has a rip on the drivers side shoulder and lower cusion.
It still has the original radio, which is always a nice sign to see (burb hasn't been hacked, wacked, or cut).

Still has the original 350 engine, never rebuilt with I'm guessing 150k miles. Automatic transmission. Original steering wheel with tilt steering (which he wants to keep, but I told him I would find him another one so that one can stay with the truck).

Power disc brakes, power steering.
Original stainless wipers and wiper arms.
Chrome bumpers (also came factory with bumper guards.
White interior (seats, door panels, dash pad ect...)
The door panels have factory stainless trim.
Stainless around the windshield, and window wing vents.

Has a little damage on the lower passenger side of the front grille where it meets up with the fender. The inner grille is like perfect along with the original chevy bow tie emblem.
The rear is cherry. There may have been at once a little bondo work on the drivers side tail light area. Other than that looks really good considering most of these old burbs have lots of rear damage on the tail light areas.

Five lug wheels. He has five lug eight inch steel wheels that go with the burb.
It has two tanks with a tank switch located next to the front of the seat on the drivers side floor.
The burb has been repainted at one time, and needs a good buff job.
It has stock chrome trim on the lower quarters all the way around the burb.

The sweet thing about this burb is its unlisted. He also said he would personally trailer it and drop it off at my house.

Its been sitting for over ten years. I didn't know if it was going to start or not. I got it dropped off at the house. Pulled plugs, sprays some WD40 inside, replaced the oil, fresh gas in the tank, and put some gas inside the carb... started right up. I felt like Dr. Frankenstein.... "IT'S ALIVE!"

I'm looking forward to seeing how this burban turns out. I just want to make it a nice, practical family rig that can pull a 19' travel trailer.

I want to lower it a couple inches in the front, and four in the rear. Not sure if I want to bag the rear, or just put springs back in the rear. I looking for some original style rallies to put on it.

Thanks for checking out my thread. I'm new here, and love the 67-72 chev/gmc's. I grew up in a '72 GMC 4x4 long bed, and it ended up being my first vehicle. I'm now 34 with a three and two year old and I hope to pass on some memories of growing up in an old truck. My kids love the suburban. We sold our newer Tahoe, and going back in time.

Wow, that appears to be in remarkable shape - congrats on the find!

I think with the right bags you can have a comfortable ride and then be able to handle the trailer load too. Best of luck with it, and welcome to the board!

Re: 1972 Custom Deluxe Suburban Barn Yard Find w/o the Barn.

Thanks for the interest and comments.

I'm searching for ideas and information on air bag systems for the rear. I'm leaning air bag only in the rear verses the bag/spring combo. Anybody know if you have to do any mods for a bag only system?

Also I'm trying to get some info on original steel wheels. I want to keep the original style steel wheel and powder coat them black. I'm not sure if what I have on the burb now are the original wheels. Any way of knowing for sure?
Thanks again.

Hey, my kids LOVE my 'Burb. The kids at their school ALL know their dads truck. I think they like the attention. haha. My little boy calls it the "boys truck" so when he and I go somewhere, he won't let me walk out the door with moms minivan keys.

I lowered mine all around. 4" rear. Couldn't tow my trailer. Raised the back 2" and put on air shocks. It works ok now but I think bags are the way to go.

Great find! I like your plans for it. Reminds me of a 1 owner 69 chevelle I bought back in '99. It was tucked away in a shed with 112k. Had not run in years. Dad and I put a fresh battery and fuel in her and she fired right up. However the body was pretty beat up but for 250 bucks I didnt care.

Re: 1972 Custom Deluxe Suburban Barn Yard Find w/o the Barn.

I need some input. Two things... I found a shop here in Bend that will install a Belltech lowering kit 710SP (2" drop coils, and four shocks), with a 4100 rear coil Rite Air Bag (two 4" drop coils with Rite air bags inside them), with Front alignment, and thrust angle alignment for $1286.00. Good buy or not a good buy?

Also I need some suggestions on tires sizes. I've decided to go with the original 15x8" steel wheels. I don't have any experience with tire sizes on two wheel drive vehicles. I'm wanting something that I can still use for towing my trailer, but have a good look as well. I'm hoping to fill the wheel well up a little bit as well (hence the lowering kit). So far I've been recommended the 235/75/15 size. With the burb lowered I'm hoping to have the top of the wheel wells close to the top of the tires.

Any help would be appreciated. Input or pictures. Thanks

I like the look of a 255/70/15. They are wider than the 235 plus slightly taller.

Here are some more photo's. Some of us getting the burb out of its place of rest for the past ten years. Getting it on the trailer. A nice shot with Smith Rock behind it. Getting it dropped off, and my daughter jumping right in... "get in the back daddy, and I'll drive you to Costco."

Nice looking burb! I would go with a little wider tire if you run the 8" wheels. The 235/75 would look fine on the 6" wheels.

Re: 1972 Custom Deluxe Suburban Barn Yard Find w/o the Barn.

Anybody know of someone that may be interested in a new original gm grille for a 1971 and 1972 chevy.

This is a complete (in original GM boxes. No bar codes ect... like repros have) inner gm# 03990700, outter gm#03990701, and head lamp bezels gm# 03990705 & 03990706.
These were hand picked out of GMs surplus for a 100 point '72 c10 short bed show truck. The show truck had taken a different route and I no longer need this. I want a practical vehicle, not a show vehicle. I also have the original GM invoice. If you know someone thats interested just let me know. $1400 obo.
