Re: HELP keep blowing fuse!
Which kit did you install?
That may help if someone used the same kit you have. Sounds like you have a (Hot) wire going Directly to ground. I would start with unplugging the rear harness (If it is in sections) and tracing where it is making a direct ground. Also check for pinched wire/wires where they are run thru the cab and bed.

Re: HELP keep blowing fuse!
Shouldn't be that hard to track down. The white wire #918 is probably grounding somewhere.
If it only blows when hitting the brake (and does not blow when emergency flash and blinkers) that only leaves a faulty/shorting brake switch as the culprit. If it blows with flashers and or blinkers I would suspect a problem in the steering column or the blinker switch. |

Re: HELP keep blowing fuse!
So, the fuse blows when you use the brake and the turn signal and does not blow when you use the flashers? Need to confirm that the flashers don't blow a fuse as it is a separate circuit. If the flashers blow it, it is more likely in the taillight wiring.
Assuming the above is true, the only things it could be are: -mis wired or shorted at the steering column multi connector (likely) This is easy to mix up. Check page 84-87 of instructions. -defective/mis wired brake switch. -short in the column (not likely since you've tried 2 switches) -defective blinker switch (not likely since you've already tried 2) -defective/mis wired dome light switch (that is the only other thing on the circuit). PS> Do the blinkers work until you hit the brake? Last edited by cj847; 11-09-2023 at 07:54 PM. |

Electrons are invisible, making them hard to locate when they go awry. It's easy to locate a coolant leak or brake fluid leak.. They leave a trail of evidence.. Not so those pesky electrons.. Follow this kink to a tool that will guide you directly to the short.

Re: HELP keep blowing fuse!
so got some updates for you guys so I ended up figuring out that I need to ground the tail lights in order for them to work but the problem I'm having right now is my tail lights aren't going on when it pulled the actual headlight on so I need to figure out what's going on there but otherwise I have everything else working at the current time.

Here is a copied Quote from Paul in post#7 and then the link it came from. {1967-72 Headlight switch, GM used 2 different styles. 1967-68 8-Terminal headlight switch or a 1969-72 7-terminal headlight switch. Note- 1967-68 the front park lights go off when headlights turn on using original style switch, if you want the front park lights to stay on with headlights choose the 7 terminal headlight switch as they are interchangeable. If your using a 69-72 version you should still have functioning lights so there is a good chance you have other issues. Per above you can identify the 67-68 switch by its 8 terminals and the 69-72 by it's 7 terminals.} Link: https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...witch+diffence

Re: HELP keep blowing fuse!
My LED tailights require a grounded flasher for the turnsignals and the flashers.
A pinched wire can and will ruin your day
