WIW Found a 70 SWB 4x4 yesterday

I knew the guy had it in a barn, he used to drive it alot but not in the last 10 years. Anyway no pics, didn't have camera
70 chevy 4x4 swb stepside 350 with a 3 speed and open knuckle frontend, body has some rust but not gone. Its all original. I think he wants to sell it but not real bad. I was told by another guy he asked $4500 for it, the owner wasn't there his buddy showed it to me. I was wondering how rare it would be. I don't like the 3 speed, if it were a AT I'd be more interested. Thanks Randy

1970 K10 Step-Side 6.5ft -1629 made
That seems a little high of a price but that's just my opinion.Maybe $2500-$3500?

Sounds way too high! What was the last year of the open knuckle front ends? I thought it was 68?

Your thinking of the closed knuckle. Open knukle started in '69 I believe.

Re: WIW Found a 70 SWB 4x4 yesterday

Open knuckle started in '70..open knuckle with drum brakes and then in '71 they were open knuckle axles with discs..

It would have to be pretty solid and straight for that.Sounds cool,though.3spd 4wds turn me off, too.

Re: WIW Found a 70 SWB 4x4 yesterday

sounds too high for "what it is", 3 speed, drum front brakes. if it was rustfree and all original with some cool options it would be better.
a few years ago i bought a 72 cheyenne 3/4 ton 4x4, original paint(tired), p-s, p-b, tilt, tach, am/fm, posi rear, aux. fuel tank, 350, auto trans, and very little rust for $600.00 and it ran pretty good.
i realize that was a steal on the cheyenne and we don't have the rust issues out here but it sounds like a $2000 dollar truck, tops. maybe he saw one too many barrett-jackson auctions.

I think that for around 4K it is reasonable, considering they jsut arent available. I say to all you nay sayers, GO out and try and find this 1/2 4X4 swb truck, not gonna happen, lots of 3/4 ton long beds but not 1/2 swb 4x4 trucks

Re: WIW Found a 70 SWB 4x4 yesterday

i know swb 4x4s aren't as common as lwb versions, even though i've owned several over the years, but it seems overpriced to me considering it's sounds like a stripper truck. if it had some options, was a CST, or was a decent driver, it might be worth more.
i sold my 69 swb 4x4 with a perfect rustfree body, new paint ,350, 4 speed, 3/4 ton axles with disc brakes, 4 inch lift, p-s, p-b, 4 speed tilt, tach, complete new interior, new weatherstripping, new bumpers, new tires etc. for 8K, a few years ago. not one of my smarter decisions but it was a nice driver and i didn't really have any need for it and it was way too clean to use as a daily driver.
just my opinion.

Re: WIW Found a 70 SWB 4x4 yesterday

I bought one original short 4wd..a 71 for $350-cab,short fleet bed,frame,6" lift, and axles and have another whole truck less motor-72 GMC short step 4wd..even more rare for $500 waiting on me to bring home, both of them were within 15 miles of me..72 was the most common for short 4wds,they are un common, but can be found if you look in the right spot

Re: WIW Found a 70 SWB 4x4 yesterday

Thanks for the input guys, it has rust in rockers and corners is about all. I personally think he's a bit high but SWB 4x4's are rare around here, especially ones for sale. I'm not going to buy this one mostly because its a 3 speed. Thanks Randy
