Question 65 Rack and Pinion

Need to completely rebuild the steering in the front of my C10 and convert to disc with drop spindles and power steering at the same time. Keeping the 292 in place so I did a search on the forum for rack and pinion setups but can't seem to find much. I see No Limit Engineering and Brothers both have R&P kits. The NLE kit is basically the same price as just buying all new standard steering components...

Anyone running either of these? It seems like its just a bolt in. I could just go back to stock but I figure why not upgrade if I'm already replacing it all.

Have you considered Captainfab power steering box bracket? That way you can use a 67 to 72 power steering box?

With the rack I believe you also have to do additional welding.

I used fatman fabrications for mine. Hub to hub front end bolt in replacement. Non-power rack but I think they offer a power version. Love it

Just to clarify, my steering box adapter plate works with any '68-'86 C/K series or '87-'91 R/V series steering box, not just '67-'72.

How is non-power rack and pinion compared to regular manual steering? Is it easier to turn because of being rack and pinion?

Might be slightly easier but not much. My truck is a 66 non-power steering truck and stayed non-ps for the simplicity. It drives great and that's what I was looking for.

I put the Unisteer power kit on my 66 and it seems to work well, it really feels great through the corners; nice and responsive. If I were to do it again, I would probably go with the No Limit kit because it looks a little closer to the crossmember than my kit.

I'm having a little issue with mine but the more I'm looking at it, the more it feels like it's in the column and not anything to do with the rack itself.

Rack and pinion steering is a great way to tighten the steering up for sure!

I'm still thinking about that. Other than this and obviously the pump, its the same setup right?

Rebuilt PS Box - $300
Mount - $60
Both Tie Rod ends outer/inner and sleeves - $115
Idler Arm - $40
Pitman Arm - $50
Center Link - $60

That's not bad I suppose - $650 or so all in. Maybe spend a little more for a stabilization kit I saw somewhere.

I know my manual setup had support on the idler arm (or was it the pitman arm..) that bolted to the frame.. is that still used? I'll just need to make or find a PS bracket for my 292.

I put the No Limit kit in my son's first truck, it was an '82 model. Same front suspension as your '65. We loved the feel and responsiveness of the power R&P steering. I plan to do it to my '65 at some point in the future.
