Jimmy vs Shortbox frames
Hello, I was wondering if there is any differences between a 1971 Jimmy 4x4 frame and the frame for a 71 Shortbox 4x4. I'm asking because I just recently bought a 71 Jimmy that had a 69 cab put on it years ago and I was wondering if I could somehow put a shortbox box on it without any major modifications. Thanks for your help.

The Jimmy frame is 11" shorter than the short box frame. The short box has a 115" wheel base and the Jimmy has a 104" wheel base. I believe that some of the body frame mounts are different, also.
Lengthening the frame may be considered as major, I guess, but it could be done. Whether it would be worth it is another question. Jim Bouncytruck is right the wheel base is 104". Last edited by JimKshortstep4x4; 06-22-2004 at 06:52 AM. Reason: Correct wheel base |

Shortbox
Another option would be to shorten the already short shortbox
IMO, I'd do the frame though. All depends on what you consider 'major' and your welding skills. |

The Blazer/Jimmy wheelbase should be 104 inches...

Find a Blazer or Jimmy tub and put it on there... Blazers & Jimmy's are much cooler than pickups anyway

Yup, 104" wb on the 69-72. Also, the rear of a Blazer frame turns down and has built in center mounts for the bumper. The shortie frame sticks out straight and all bumper mounts bolt to the frame.

My 71 Blazer frame came out straight and had bolt on rear bumper brackets...
