hey guys. A while ago I bought a front disc brake kit from a vendor that I will keep unknown. Anywho, the vendor sent me the wrong caliper, and I tried for 3 days straight to reach them and no dice. I got tired of waiting, so I bought one for a 73-87 chevy, and the banjo bolt is larger than the one on the right, not to mention the hose fitting is for a smaller size. Now, i'm stuck with two wrong calipers, 3 wrong banjo bolts and a truck thats sitting on jacks.

Now my question, what is the common caliper that is used? I'm very frustrated with the customer service that I have seen from this company. It seems like the phone line is always busy or rings like theres no tomorrow.

you can get calapers at advanced auto or autozone.
then you can get the correct hoses and banjo bolts at www.inlinetube.com
heck i think autozone even has banjo bolts

Have you not tried a stock 71-72 caliper??
I would contact admin or a mod and see if they can help you get a hold of the vendor......especially if they are a possible site vendor. With all the helpful people on this board Im sure you can get this resolved quickly if you talk to the right guys.

i just bought a driver side caliper from oriellys for 12 dollars and there was an 11 dollar core charge. but i took the old one with me and avoided the core charge

There are at least two different types of calipers for 73-87 trucks. I have a '85 GMC 1500 with the heavy breaking package and a '84 with the reg package and the calipers and hoses are both different. Try taking the one that you want to match with you to the parts store and it will be alot easier to find that way. Most of the parts houses will pull some boxes for you to make sure that you have what you need.

I called and finally got a hold of the vendor and they told me to get the wrong caliper, so now I have three wrong calipers.

I just want to get my truck together. I have been set back by this stupid problem for over 2 months now, and im just spinning my wheels.

I believe I have the correct banjo bolts, but im just missing the correct caliper. My source for the calipers that I have bought is Advance Auto, and last time I was there getting yet another wrong part-my truck got hit in the parking lot!

I have tried an 81-86' caliper and a 72-78' caliper.

I have a pair of matching banjo bolts that both fit my original, correct passenger side caliper.

I just checked advance auto site and the part number for 1971 is different than 72'. Maybe you need the 71' part number???

Alright, well i'll try a 71' next i guess. I know other people are also having problems with this vendor, and most of you have already PMd me and guessed who it is.

Why don't you carry the correct caliper to your local parts store and see if they can match/cross reference the correct one for the other side?

Then send all of the others back to where ever you got them.

Ok.... Wait a minute....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What disc conversion kit did you get? are you dealing with a 6 lug drum to 5 lug disc conversion? or a 6 lug disc... You need to know what "spindle" your working with here. I've worked in parts stores for over 20 years. Unless you know what your trying to fit... you will just hoping and pecking at choices...
Call your "front disc brake kit" supplier and find out what the disc brake application is. Are you running a stock disc spindle, aftermarket (lowering) spindle or a converted drum spindle (Im not sure there are any out there, but?)
Call me if you still are having issues tomorrow (Wed 1/09 8a-4p MT). I will be around all my parts catalogs... 605-381-5430. I'll do everything I can to get you some help on this headache.

Amen. Having spent the last 20 years working on automobiles it is the persons who is working on the autos duty to know what he or she is working on. On the other hand the parts person should be knowlegable also when given a particular auto. I, being a partsman now, have weak moments when someone walks in and say's " I'm working on a 95 well maybe 97 front differential and I need that thing that hooks up the two long things and my friend said that it would get rid of the noise."
Take all the parts in question to the store. Not only get the correct calipers, hoses, banjo bolts, and copper washers, get the correct pads to go with this and figure out what they are from and write it down for future reference and keep it in a safe place for the next guy or yourself.
I would criticize the seller of original parts for their poor guidance and feel free to tell them after you have this resolved completely.

doh! Why didnt I think of that

I have a 6 lug conversion, 2 1/2 drop. I will try to give you a ring tomorrow. Thanks alot!

And I did call my vendor, and they put me on hold earlier today for about 15 minutes to go out and look at a box, only to come back and tell me "we only sell them in pairs" so I asked what their part number was. After being on hold for another 10 minutes, the response I got was "all it says is caliper and hardware on the box... sorry"

Am I asking the wrong questions?

BTW thanks for all your help guys. I really do appreciate it.

If it's a board member, why not post their name so the rest of us don't have to deal with the same crap. If it's LMC----well ---welcome to the club. Most of the board vendors are really pretty good---rarely an issue.

actually, i ordered over $1400 in parts from LMC truck and got free shipping and a thank you card-and a christmas card. Not to mention the shipment was a day early. I was very happy with them.

racerman i am doing the same thing to my truck right now and when i went to get calipers yesterday i kept you in mind. So i did not go to the less expensive big box parts supplier instead i went to the mom and pop old school parts house and the first thing the guy asked me was if it was the 1.25 rotor or the 1 rotor. i said which ever rotor you have in stock cause i need those too.
