Unhappy Need Electrical Help in AUstin Tx

Does anyone in Austin have experience with electrical work? I put in a painless kit, and I still cannot get the headlights and tail lights to work. I can put the switch in the first click position, then use a piece of wire to connect the big blue wire to one of the other wires and the headlights will come on and the brake lights are much brighter as if there were tail lights on. Im just clueless when it comes to this electrical stuff.
