Tailgate Panel Removal - Need Guidance Please

Hello,

I need to advise a friend on how to remove the tailgate trim panel without damaging it. I have attached a photo so you can see the type of panel I am referring to. Could you fine folks advise me on what needs to be done to remove it?

if i remember right there is a tool made by motormite on red cards in most auto parts stores with the name HELP on it and they make a tool which compresses the clips... Sometimes you can just push up on it and then pull it away from the tailgate too..

Do you have to remove the panels on the tailgate to access the clips?

Are there screws on the inside of the 'gate holding it on?

On the larger panels, like on the '77 gate I have, there were long screws going thru the gate that held the panel on.

Unlesss GMC mounts differently than the 3 Chevrolet tailgates that I have , there are between 3 to 5 screws on the inside if the tailgate that hold it on . Mine have torx heads . Frank
