10,000 weight gear oil
The shop rebuilding the Dana out of our '66 GMC sent us this picture today of the sludge in the diff housing. I'm going to guess this is the original fluid. Plan is to get the axles and drums redrilled for my 5 on 5 wheels. Hopefully everything cleans up okay and the Dana's are as indestructible as I hear.

Re: 10,000 weight gear oil
That is a bit extreme but that is why when someone asks about what their gear ratio is, I always recommend pulling the cover and having a look, since the gear oil likely needs changed anyway.
The Dana 44's aren't what I would call indestructible. Now the Dana 60 and 70's are pretty darn tough.
