Put in new inner and outter bearings on the front wheel, then new disk pads ('72) - As I was putting the caliper back on, I had to keep the rear shoe "up" so that it's ears would rest on the through bolts that hold the caliper in place. No biggee once I figured out what needed to be done. When it was all done, I looked down and saw this spring on the ground! I am pretty sure it holds the inner pad in place... Just not sure how. Both my manuals make mention of it but NO PICS! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

it snaps on the back of the inboard pad and holds it to the piston.

The triangle lookin thing slips inside the caliper piston.

hmm ok, that makes sense sooo the next question is, is this one bent? It's only about an 1 1/2" across... the pad is alot wider than that... so isn't the inside of the piston - it's about 3 1/2" on the inside....

that is the anti-rattle clip. if you dont mind an annoying rattle that happens only when driving. you can live with out it. or you can pull the calipers off and remove inner pad snap clipon back side of pad with the spring on the upper half so that it looks like a capital p . and center it in the round hole and reinstall it. old money.

Would the 'el Jimador' in the backgraound have anything to do with leftover parts?

The el Jumidor was after I finished up - at least the first bottle was... the second bottle helped take my mind off the clip AND kept me from putting the wheel back on until I got the clip figured out... (it's still not in yet!)

If that one doesn't look right, You could probably get that a new clip in a brake hardware kit from you local parts store. Its a good idea to put new springs and anti rattle stuff on anyway. Would probably run about $10.

not sure if it looks right or not - I haven't pulled the other side yet - I was trying to figure out how it could fit across the pad but I guess it mounts in the hole half way across the pad - still would like to see a pic if anyone has a manual or such.... just to help clarify..

I believe that clip pictured is bent, but you are correct as stated above. The "prong" end of the clip goes into the hole in the back of the pad. The "forked" end snaps on the bottom edge of the pad.
