I just wiped them down real good with a wet cloth before I painted mine... The armrest is where I have the most wear... and peel,.. I just touched em up with paint a little while ago...no bigs. If they get dirty.. i just wipe em down real easy.. and they clean up real good. I'm the same as 81ratrodc10... just a temp fix, till I can find what I really want to put on the doors.

Re: anyone have pictures of door panels on 81-87's

I've done alot of door panels and I used either the vinyl dye, or for the hard plastic like these krylon fusion for plastic and worked great. I just wiped em all down with some grease and wax remover then sprayed them, worked perfectly, hasn't flaked or peeled or scratched.

on hard plastic only door panels I haven't had much luck with it, krylon fusion has worked alot better and held up longer for me. The vinyl dye tends to flake and come off on anything hard plastic I ever put it on, no flexible plastic, vinyl and fabric it's the only way to go other then like sem and such.

I just never had any luck with it on hard plastic, although I did use plastikote on the 86's and they held up.

Re: anyone have pictures of door panels on 81-87's

Here's mine, the pic is about three years old, and I've replaced the upper brushed aluminum piece with one that doesn't have the pull strap. The chrome strap covers on the passenger side kept breaking so I got rid of them.

Re: anyone have pictures of door panels on 81-87's

Here is mine. I am getting ready to redo them (power!). I just used Suburban inserts. I filled and painted the stock trim and made the speaker pods. The pods will be moved, since they constantly get kicked.

Re: anyone have pictures of door panels on 81-87's

Just stock 83 Silverado. SEM paint on the door panels, local upholstery shop did the carpet bottoms and vinyl insert where the velour fabric went. JC Whitney modified generic door straps (stronger than stock) and replaced plastic chrome ends on the straps. I think about < $100 for both doors complete.
