1962 c10 ls swap?

Going to do an ls swap on my 1962 c10, has anyone on here done this? It has the x frame with torsion bars, is that going to be possible to do with the 5.3/4l60e combo? If any one has some advice and pics that would be great!

Re: 1962 c10 ls swap?

There is tons of info, but be prepared to do allot of research on every detail.

I have a 62'GMC I'll be working on actual wrenching starting next week. I'm not much on documenting my work, but i'll try to be mindful enough to take a few shots here and there.

Armchair theory:
From what I've gathered over the last couple years you're gonna have to be prepared to do some fab on your own or have a shop in mind. The frames are similar but slightly different in some dimensions aside from the X-frame and Torsion bars.

1st Motor mounts

2nd Transmission Mounts X-member adaptation issue

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...342&styleid=63

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ht=crossmember

Scroll way down for the last one.

This all helps me out too.. I'll see about the links for the LS headers. Most are going with Doug Thorleys, but I'm planning on running the Sandersons.

Good luck. Again, way more out there and under direct topics ta boot.

Frostie: Are you still runnin the torsion bars? Looks like you're actuating the bars with air/hydros on the crossmember end?

Re: 1962 c10 ls swap?

Here is my 5.3 and 4L60 in my 62. There is plenty of room engine and transmission wise but I have a 77 crossmember so no torsion bar mount. The only thing is the frame in a different height on the 62s and I have not found an aftermarket engine mount that fits. I just made a 3/4 inch spacer out of a piece of steel.

Re: 1962 c10 ls swap?

Lookin good ya'll!

I've started on mine and it's been pretty nuts so far. The PO did some crazy shtuff to this poor machine. I could have an entire thread alone on it!

Anyway I've been having some interesting "luck" on this job. My engine mounts seem to be on the Wide side and my frame rails are within spec, but on the tight side. Had a hell of a time getting the motor in, but now it sits pretty close to the firewall along with the mounts sitting pretty far back on the crossmember. It's almost a mid-engine truck now. I'll have to get the pics uploaded later this week.

One thing I'm really diggin is how the trans tunnel unbolts and moves out of the way!

-Joe

Here we are so far...Progress will be slow at this point.

Added the High Tech trans mount bushings the PO had made.

Re: 1962 c10 ls swap?

I just started as well. It turned out that the truck had been wrecked and they welded the bumper on the front end. I had to cut off part of the frame in order to get the bumper off. They welded the hell out of it. Name: 61 pics 1.JPG

I swapped the front end with a 1981 front end. I went in pretty smooth with all the help from these guys.

I need some help as well. I was wondering if someone could take a measurement from the front clip mounts to the front of the frame where the bumper goes so I can make some new mounts for the bumper. Thanks guys

Re: 1962 c10 ls swap?

I won't be back to the truck till this weekend, but I'll take a measurement if no one else gets to it.
I thought I remember reading about some differences between the bumpers and years on the board somewhere.
