Lots of NP205 New Process 205 Parts
I'm cleaning up the garage, and decided to see if there's any interest in my NP205 spare parts. All parts are used.
Buyer to pay shipping costs. I work 40-60 hrs a week, so it might take me a couple days to get the parts shipped. Most items will fit in a USPS flat rate box, and I will combine shipping when possible. Prices will probably seem high, but these are genuine New Process parts and are getting hard to find. Please post interest in item(s) on the thread so I'll have a clear order to follow in case there's multiple people interested in the same item. We'll continue with PM's afterwards. Earliest buyers get choice of part(s) if I have multiple of the same item. Paypal or US Postal money order for payment. PayPal fees are included, but NOT shipping fees. If paying with a Postal money order, I'll reduce the price by the PayPal fees (2.9% plus $0.30). I'm not in need of any trades, but will consider '58-59 GMC specific parts, '55-59 Chevy/GMC parts, or '60-66 Chevy/GMC parts or '55-57 Chevy car/wagon parts depending what you have. I will take a greaseable pivot bolt, and the lower left shift knob with the white around the black letters.
Do you happen to have any 71 or 72 4 Speed 4x4 shift handles?

UPDATE: it appears this style was used on Furd (NP205 & Dana 24) from 1959-77. The knob has been repainted at some point (the white looks more cream color) and done rather poorly in my opinion. The knob has a fair bit of wear on it as well, and a small chunk removed on the bottom where it threads to the shifter. If you're still interested I'd take $10 for it, and it would ship at no additional cost with the bolt. I found the one shifter I have for a 4-speed, but I believe I removed it from a 1973+ 4x4 (larger dia then the earlier ones?). I'm in on the knob. The 4 speed shifter looks like an 80s square body one nut I'm not certain.

I'd recommend "B" for your '71, it's probably the correct one, and the same length as "A" if it's not the correct one. It is also stronger than the flat plate style (A is actually 3 separate pieces, with the studs pressed into the plate, and I have one that has a stud missing. Would you know what speedo gear count I would need for a truck with 3:73s and 33" tall tires ? ( and does the gear inside the out-put housing need to be changed at the same time ? ) Or Do you have a speedometer ratio adapter that screws on where the speedometer cable goes that would correct my speedometer ? One thing to note is the tire diameter can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so a 33" tire from one might be closer to 32", and another closer to 33.5". Also the amount of tread on the tire when new vs worn out (more so on mud or all terrain tires) will also affect the true diameter. If you're able to to confirm the drive gear color, material or tooth count, I'll double check if mine has the 16 tooth driven gear the calculator recommends. On a side note I'm lowering the price on the GM style driven gears to $40 ea (plus shipping) Still your choice in tooth count. Thanks, Daniel |

As far as I know the NP203 or 205 used in GM vehicles never had a 16 tooth speedometer gear (Dodge/international did, but the rear output housing is different). I have 18 to 22 tooth driven gears for GM. If they make an 8 tooth plastic drive gear for GM then the 18 tooth would get you close. Your best option is probably going to be a ratio box like you mentioned. Some transmission shops will custom make them for your exact (or as close as possible) ratio. I do have several and could sell you one if I happen to have the ratio you need. The best way to determine that would be drive the truck on the highway at 60 mph, (set cruise control if you have it) and have a passenger monitor your speed on their phone via an app, or simply using Google map directions (or similar). This will give you a GPS speed (assuming you have cell service etc). You will need to go long/far enough to have a steady reading on both your speedometer and GPS. The GPS speed will be pretty close to actual speed (in my work trucks if I drive 67.5 mph per the speedometer, the GPS reads 65). Use the GPS speed on your phone to determine the difference between what your speedometer reads and actual. This will be the ratio you need to adjust to get it to read correctly. Note: if you have any type of ratio box already (doesn't sound like you do) you will need to remove it before attempting the process listed above. After you determine that, I'll look thru the ratio boxes I have to see if there's anything close. |

Hey Dan,
1st thank you for your time and effort.... My truck is a frame off resto-mod and isn't road ready yet, so the gps isn't possible at this time. What I have currently is a H-18t and metal drive gear. I also have a stewart warner ratio box with 1.2020 ratio. (I also have a J=19t gear, spare ) I measured my tires, there more like 32" tall. Do you believe any of what I have would be close ? Or if you have a ratio box that would work better. Thanks Gary

The metal drive gear has 6 teeth and you won't be able to change from that one unless you change the entire output shaft (not necessary). With a 6 tooth drive gear, 3.73 gears and 32" tires, you would need 14.09 teeth on the driven gear. With your 1.2 ratio adapter it will help correct some, but I think it will still read slow on the speedometer. Here's a thread that might be helpful for you to figure out the exact ratio. I can't open the spreadsheet on my phone so I'm not sure what it is, but seems helpful by other posts. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=656949 Keep in mind the math to figure everything out exactly is possible, but there could be variables not reflected in the math vs real world driving. If it were me, I'd wait to see how close it reads once it's road worthy and go from there. Even though gps is not perfect, it's still probably the best way to establish a baseline to calculate unless you took it to the trans shop that makes the gear ratio boxes. If you're not able to use the spreadsheet, the author seems like the go to source to help you determine what ratio box you need. If you are able to determine the ratio box you need let me know and I'll take a look at what I have, but waiting until you're able to drive it is also a legitimate option too. I used to know more about all the ratios and gears, but it's not something I've messed with in several years. I was in the same boat as you when working on my own truck, and the math said what to use, but I'm still running a little fast at the speedometer. Part of that could be the almost 60 year old speedometer not being as accurate as modern gauges, or the 33" tires only having 35 psi makes for a shorter sidewall on the bottom half of the tires, etc. Mine was supposed to be corrected, but is about 5 mph off, but I would rather it read a little fast then slow though.
