Anyone know on average what the standard rear end gear ratio was in a 68 LWB with a 250? Just curious as my truck is miles away from me.

Most likley you have 3.73's

1/2 TON = 3:73
3/4 TON = 4:11

Oh, one more thing, I am 90% sure that it is a posi. Does the 3:73 for a 1/2 ton still hold true?

Yup...you could get posi on a C10.

Look on the option sticker in the glovebox next time you see your truck....it will say if it is originally anything other than 3.73, and it will say if you have factory posi

I've got a 72 originally with a I6 that has got a 3.08 gear does that mean it was not an original 6 cyl truck

If it is an original 6-cylinder truck, the VIN should start with CCS.

A original V8 truck's VIN number should be CCE for '72

It is possible that your rearend has been swapped....in 31years, alot of things could have been changed. Good luck

Good point Yellow72custom, I guess it doesn't matter, I was really hoping to swap the rear to another truck,however when I pulled the cover I was disappointed

now I'll have to spring for a posi unit and a gear set
