Ring and pinion ?

Buddy has a ring and pinion that he says is for Chevy truck, numbers on the ring are 2 GM 3988517 11- 41 5 76 and numbers on pinion are 3988516 11. 41. And 5 76, I have no clue how to figure out if they are for 12 bolt Chevy truck, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

41 divided by 11 is 3.72727272727 or 3.73 ratio rounded up. They were made in May of 1976. Google suggests the part # is for an 8.5” 10 bolt. They will work in a truck 10 bolt, but in 1976 GM wasn’t putting the 10 bolt in a truck. Yet.
