Converted from Drum to disc brake line location.

After converting a drum brake truck to disks I have a brake hose issue. NOW it is obvious the set up was designed for connecting to the stock location of the brake lines in a drum truck. Of course they didn't come with directions and after I powdered coated the frame I converted the lines to Disc style, located in front of the cross-member. Now the Line is in a precarious position. How does the factory calipers run the flexible line? I can machine the back of the caliper so the hose can be angled in. Just wondering what others have done. Don't fret about the lower ball joint nut. I have left is loose to it can be taken apart if needed. All will be taken care of before it hits the road.

Re: Converted from Drum to disc brake line location.

I used the Inline Tube kit that ran the lines on the rear of the cross member and got flex hoses from Autozone. The part number I can’t recall but the hoses were for a 1969 Buick GS.

That only helps those with rake lines in stock location. As 72 said above I think there are many threads on your situation.

Thumbs up Re: Converted from Drum to disc brake line location.

I notched mine on the 68 when I swapped them over. You can see where I grinded off the metal in the 2 picture.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I'm no expert by any means, but it doesn't look like you would need to take off much material on the part where the line hits to get it to clear. Again, no expert, so I will let the others chime in.

Re: Converted from Drum to disc brake line location.

I converted my drums to disc brakes also. The brake lines are ran on the back of the front crossmember to the stock location. If you ran the lines on the front you can get that tab for mounting the rubber line to metal line. I believe inline tube carry's them. Maybe some one else can give you a hose# and routing of the hose.

You need 73-87 hoses. They go from the caliper and forward to the frame in front of the crossmember.

Re: Converted from Drum to disc brake line location.

Thanks for all the pictures and input.
I have ordered the stock 1972 hoses.
They are pictured in one of the postings. They have the round style ends. Are the 73 up the same as the 72's?
I am hoping they would solve my issue. Looks like it might take a combination of different hoses and grinding on the calipers.
I don't get the modern companies sending out part all-cart with the expectation the consumer will figure it out. I have years of experience and the board's help. The poor kid that does this on his own is going to be frustrated or just unsafe.

That's what I would have done also, but I would've ground the metal off instead of grinded it

Re: Converted from Drum to disc brake line location.

This should help . I switched to disc fronts on my 67 and had to search for a hose that would work . I bought these at Autozone, duralast 88466 . I haven't installed them yet I'm switching over to stainless lines now .

I looked at the picture, of the ones in the link, and they have straight ends on the caliper side. Some of my issue is the hose can only go one way on the calipers, straight up. The linked hosed are just like the ones that came with the kit. I'd do Wilwood brakes if they mad them for the C10. Something that is actually engineered for the truck and fits!

I used 72 hoses on my conversion and they fit perfectly, the only modification was I had to turn down the end that fits thru the frame mount hole just a little to make them fit.

Re: Converted from Drum to disc brake line location.

Thanks to everyone that replied.
Sheepdip had what worked for me.
I purchased the original hoses for a 71-72 and they bolted right in, no modifications.
I'm not sure the hoses provided would have been safe to hook up ot the rear (drum brake) connections.
I'll included some pictures. One is with the hoses side by side. Another is with the conversion kit's hose connected to the rear (drum brake) connection, which I didn't use.
Thanks again.

Well I see the last picture will not work at all, unsafe on all accounts, rubbing with travel, turning could cause hose to collapse, so which way are you going to go? Also don't forget the castle nut!

Saving this for future reference, in the very near future.
