Rear end and gear Ratios?

I have a 62' C10 fleetside with a 350. I would just like to know what is a good rear end with a good gear ratio to match the 350? I do have an older transmission that i would eventually replace. I would like a rear end with some balls

Re: Rear end and gear Ratios?

I have a 12 bolt rear with a 3.07 gear that gives good power as well being friendly on the interstate.

How much HP/TQ is that 350 putting out?

If you want some highway milage go with a 307, IMOP, I have a 350/350/3.73, in my own truck, although very quick, milage sucks, 342 ratio would be a good compromise.

to me, that implies you want a strong (as in "hard to break") rear end.

but in your previous thread you said you were topped out at 80 and wanted something that would allow you to give a honda a run for its money. it wasn't clear if you wanted to go faster than 80 so that you could out run the honda on top end, or you wanted to accelerate faster than the honda from a standing start.

two different situations.

you first need to know what ratio you have now.

to me, if you're wound out at 80 you may have already have a decent ratio for acceleration, you just need a "badass" engine. the best of both worlds is, as others mentioned, an overdrive transmission.

Re: Rear end and gear Ratios?

You need to offer more input before anyone can advise you correctly. What the HP/TQ ratings of your motor? Are you running an O/D tranny? What size (height) rear tire are you running?

I would need to know all of these perimeters before suggesting a final drive ratio.

Re: Rear end and gear Ratios?

I have a non slip rear end which I think was standard but I'm not sure what the gear ratios are I know I need a new transmission cause it was just thrown on there after they switched the engine to a 350. I do not know the hp or tq. The engine is an edelbrock 350
