Re: power lock problems
Could be the lock relay, it's mounted above the gas pedal. But I would start at the drivers door switch and work back.
Check all the connections at the switch. Check the connector under the dash near the kick panel running from the door to the inside of the cab. Wiggle that harness while trying to lock it. My windows were working intermittently for a while, and that's where I found my problem.

Re: power lock problems
9/10 of the time its the wiring at the switch isnt making good contact on GM power windows and locks of this genre

Mine don't work with either switch lock or unlock...how would I go about troubleshooting it...or should I just replace the relay...how much you think something like that costs...thanks guys...

Re: power lock problems
Chuck - I'm not sure what the relays would cost. Check you r fuse block, not only for the fuse but I believe the main power wire plugs into the fuse block as well. Start were the power starts, then check the relay. It's above the gas pedal, closest to the firewall, and the right side of the bracket.
Also, both of you, sometimes the wires that run between the door and the door jam can break, so that's a possibility too.

Re: power lock problems
I think the relay is pretty expensive. I also thought of just replacing it to see if it would fix the problem, but im going inspect all of the connections first like suggested.

Re: power lock problems
I'd check the switches first. Mine quit working and all I did was take the switches apart and clean the contacts. They work great now...

Re: power lock problems
I have the opposite problem on my drivers door. I hit the lock button and it will not unlock. The knob tries to move, so it isn't the switch. I couldn't pull the knob up either. I ended up using a "jimmy stick" to unlock it and haven't tried to lock it again.

Re: power lock problems
I do believe the part you are looking for resembles this guy:
Other pics available if that doesn't do it. Last edited by 83GMCK2500; 02-05-2010 at 04:54 AM. |

Re: power lock problems
I went through the whole power door lock issue on my 83 C20 before I realized that it was just rust on the lock rod assembly. Try pulling off the inside door panel and spray some WD40 on the lock rod and hardware, then work the switch back and forth. Might save you actuator and switch costs. The switch harness connectors do work loose, so try wiggling, removing/reinstalling the connections. Good luck.

Re: power lock problems
BTW Fat Hoe - The greenish round one on the fuse block is the flasher.
I mentioned this earlier: Quote:

Re: power lock problems
does it also do that if you use the passenger switch? If the pass side works them fine then its gotta be the switch. they're less than ten bucks
