Re: 250 inline six exhaust

From what I've read you have to join the pipes between the exhaust manifold and the mufflers. [ X or H ]

Re: 250 inline six exhaust

I have a flowmaster 40 series with 2.5" tube all the way to the back bumper on my '78 straight six...It sounds good, except it's too loud. If I had to do it again, I'd use a 50 series muffler.

Did the same but, Got a high flow cat inline and did a turn down before the axle, Nice sound, But way too loud inside the cab.

Re: 250 inline six exhaust

forget the crossover --Be one of a kind with the O-pipe !! http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main...&products_id=3

I am using a 18" cherry bomb and 2"EMT conduit that dumps in front of the rear wheel. also has a 3" chrome tip megaphone . It is not ricey, very throaty and makes you check it out when you hear it!! sounds like a ratty inline six
Of course their are guys around who can still split a manifold for dual exhaust

Re: 250 inline six exhaust

ide keep it sort of quiet if it was going to be a daily, because me personaly on a long trip or somthing i dont like listening to a loud truck all the time but if ists just an around town truck it would be fine to be a little louder

Re: 250 inline six exhaust

well im not sure what your budget is but headers and new mufflers may make the differance http://www.cliffordperformance.net/M...gory_Code=C250 as for me i have tried flowmasters and magnaflows pypes almost all popular brands of mufflers but my faves are the ones most havent heard of called spintech mufflers http://www.spintechmufflers.com/

have them on my truck and love em! nothing comes close

Found a couple of pictures

Size: 45.0 KBI re-bent a new piece from the output side of the muffler to have the chrome tip stop just before the rear tire.

I installed a Offenhauser Intake and a Holley but I kept the stock exhaust manifold as the truck is my daughter's daily driver to high school.
I wanted to use the stock heat riser set -up with the Offy as I felt the water heated style of the clifford intake would not cut it during the Idaho winters.
She drove it over 3000 miles in the school year Aug 2010 to today, June 10 2011, the last day of school.

Headers make a lot of difference in the sound of a six .Splitting the stock exhaust manifold to run dual exhausts sounds pretty cool too. especially if split 4/ 2 cylinders , which gives it a distinctive "Inline 6 cackle"

Re: 250 inline six exhaust

I'm not sure exactly what muffler you have now, so it's hard to recommend a new muffler that you will like. Can you get a brand or model number for us? Maybe even a picture might tell us what it is?

A turbo muffler is a good way to go for most people because they are quiet at idle and cruise, but get louder at WOT. You just can't go wrong with these and they are cheap too.

If your exhaust is too "ricey" now, you can try adding a round bullet style muffler before your existing muffler to help take some of that high pitched noise out.

i would think that a glasspack type muffler would make it sound more ricey wouldnt it? kinda like hondas and thier glasspacks

sounds like your muffler is a 2''1/2 inlet and a duel 3'' outlet
so it sounds like your muffler is doing the oppisite of what it supposed to such as filtering that throaty noise and letting out the high pitch bad. if you could get pics of your exhaust system it would help. the thrush welded series muffler is both cheap and sounds pretty good. alomost like a flowmaster 44 i would say maybe change your muffler since it has more to do with sound than any other change that your willing to do at this point

Re: 250 inline six exhaust

I heard the thrush mufflers dont last too long tho. Idk. What do u guys think about the magnaflow 14 (14inch) muffler with 2 1/2 inch pipe tail pipe? Thats what a muffler shop recommended me.

well you get what you pay for. the magnaflows I have used before were pretty quiet but a very well built muffler. Is your exhaust come out before or after the wheels?

Re: 250 inline six exhaust

Hey guys.

Here in Brazil, this engine (inline 6, 250) is very popular.
Many Chevrolet Opala came with this engine:

http://www.google.com.br/search?tbm=...6l1261l2.6.0.1

Is typically used a dimensioned exhaust. Like this one:

Mounted like this:

The exhaust pipes are 2" or 2.5".

The sound is like this:

Greetings from Brazil!

It has 2 3 inch turndowns before the rear wheels. Just sounds too bass and halow for me. I want it to sound like a old truck that it is(its a 78).

Re: 250 inline six exhaust

well getting rid of the 3 inch tail pipes will definitly help. also the more open the muffler/bigger the more bass/ hollow sound it tends to produce, and the longer the usually quieter they are. if you like that video that is the thrush welded series that are pretty cheap, I say try the magnaflows they will give that quietness and that nice little burble at the tips.
