Parts and Financial questions

Hey guys been a long time since I've posted on here. I've got a question that might seem stupid, but you guys know more than I do! I found in my local Craigslist a 1986 chevy truck http://lewiston.craigslist.org/pts/3307450760.html for $500. Now the questions if I buy it and take what parts I need (Bed, Doors, Tranny and interior parts) And then take the rest to scrap how much money would I actually lose from the deal? and What parts besides the fenders and grill would be interchangable between my 1979 chevy silverado k20 3/4 ton and this 1986 chevy custom deluxe k20 1/2 ton? Any thing you could point out would be Great Thanks!

Re: Parts and Financial questions

the only way to use the grill is to swap all of the front clip. have u gone to look at the in side and what motor is in it and how good it is.

Re: Parts and Financial questions

I don't really want any of the front clip parts, I have no Idea yet I'm still trying to get ahold of the owner so I could come take a look at it.

Thats a way better than my "$500 or less" truck. It looks rust free

Yeah Kind of why I want it it's got a pretty straight body it looks like and I need a new bed and doors for my truck. I also need new interior, but I'm not sure just how much of that will work.

I'd be tempted to put that truck back together and sell it.

Yeah that has been crossing my mind as well. I don't think it has an engine in it though so that might be a bit of a speed bump.

Re: Parts and Financial questions

IF you do buy it, I WILL buy the entire grille assembly from you. I'm serious.

It looks worth the $500 they want for it plus you can haggle the price down even lower.

This post was not started as a "For Sale/ Wanted to Buy" thread, so lets keep it that way. Any further discussion of selling parts will result in the thread being locked.

Re: Parts and Financial questions

Get the title, otherwise you normally can't scrap it.

There's a place here that just requires a vin number to scrap it. And even if that doesn't work there's prolly not gonna be enough of it left to care about a title.

But having a title would help with legal actions if I do a cab swap.

Re: Parts and Financial questions

I am not sure exactly what you are taking off that truck, but around here and intact vehicle of most any kind is supposed to bring $450 in scrap value - they haul it away. Not sure what the market is like in your neck of the woods, but if you strip it down to separate metal, copper, etc., I think you would get more yourself.

Wow, that is a deal for $500. Very solid looking truck, toss an engine in it and go.

Re: Parts and Financial questions

All cab parts should interchange just fine I actually have an opposite of what you got an 86 truck and a 79 parts truck. As far as firewall forward there might be some differences depending on what the truck was optioned with especially if you start getting into wiring harnesses

Sounds good I might be doing a cab swap idk yet I will figure it out later there are some legal issues with cab swapping I've heard about with the changing the vin numbers.

Re: Parts and Financial questions

That truck also looks like it has a 4" lift on it. I would honestly build it up. The body looks way too nice for scrap (at least in PA that truck would run $2500 in the condition it sits).
