I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

This whole thing makes me wonder about someone who would park new vehicles out in a field and just let them sit and deteriorate. That's not normal.

Dad and I are planning on going to it. Probably won't buy anything, but it'll be fun to watch. Whammer, do you think you'll go? Dad lives south of Thornton.

Re: Lambrecht Chevrolet dealership Auction

He frequents the VFW about once a week. Up until last spring, you could see him around Thornton in my truck.

We'll probably head over Friday night and come back Sunday afternoon.

I'm interested to see what the fleet of 64 C10's go for.

Re: Lambrecht Chevrolet dealership Auction

Couldn't find the most recent thread, but the local news is reporting the one mile '58 Cameo is heading to NH. The town it will live in is just down the road from where I live although I doubt I'll ever cross paths with the buyer or his collection. Anyway, there's a short interview with the new owner and a couple of shots of a few of his cars for anyone interested.
http://www.wmur.com/news/nh-news/his...z/-/index.html

Anyone else know of or picked up one of the trucks there?

Re: Lambrecht Chevrolet dealership Auction

Sounds like it will never be seen again, ("very limited public viewing") until Mr. Ames dies and it goes up for auction again.

Sounds like Mr. Ames insurance agent will be giving him a call to up his coverage. And Mrs. Ames is going to get real tired of people bugging her to tell were it is stored so they can see it.

The other cars in his collection look restored. I wonder if he will repair the top and windshield, and detail the truck.

In at least two different interviews he's said it will be left exactly as it is. The broken windshield and bent roof add "provenance."

Re: Lambrecht Chevrolet dealership Auction

Been messing with muscle cars for 40+ years and lived in NH for nearly all of that time. Steve Ames is the owner of Ames Performance and has been one of the few companies that specializes in Pontiac restoration parts. Done a bit of business with him over the years. Great guy. Most of those cars in his collection have not been restored. They are low mileage original cars. I'm glad that truck went to a good home. http://www.amesperf.com/

Was. He probably sold it right after you moved out.

Well hell.. At least business must have been really good if he can afford a car collection like that. After reading this thread this morning I sent for one of their catalogs. Gonna be needing some stuff for the 80 Trans Am the wife just bought.

I don't think I would enjoy owning that truck and leaving it looking like it does now. Provenance or not, I'd fix the roof and windshield and detail it to make it look as good as possible. I'd also get it running and driving, and then take it for a drive, even if it was less than .6 miles so that the odometer is still under two miles.
Owning it and never driving it would be like having a wife that you never.......... OK, maybe not that bad, but you get the idea.

lol...
Maybe he's a voyeur... in that case he can watch while someone else takes it for a drive.

I don't see any value in leaving it dented, either. If that truck had been dented on delivery at the dealership, then fixed, and never sold, the sale price wouldn't have been any lower. Current condition is well documented so document the repair and use the same techniques and materials (if possible) as 1958. It would probably increase the value (it would to me) if a NOS roof could be located rather than a section or a re-work of what's already there.

Well...his money, his truck. All I know is it's HIGHLY unlikely I'll ever have to deal with a problem like that.

What still floors me is the 75, 76 and 79 C20's that sold for $20,000.
