The 9-5. The Daily Grind.

I guess to get to know everyone a little better. At this time I am serving a 3 year apprenticeship to be a Diesel Mechanic for Union Pacific RailRoad. This is the kind of stuff I get to work on.

This is what you see when you remove the turbo, cam gears (top), Idler gear (center).

This is the turbo about 4' tall, pushin 4 times atmospherical preasure at full load, 18,000 rpm at full load.

This is a GE (General Electric power assembly) about 700 cubic inch per assembly x 16 cylinders.

And this is what the brake eqiupment looks like, tons of valves.

Let see what ya'll up to on a daily basis

The assemblies range anywhere from 567 ci to 645 ci all the way to 710 ci, and yes that is dissplacemant per cylinder. Most locomotives have 16 cylinders. HP ratings are 1500-6000, with torque measured in Mega Watts. All that power leads to 460 mpg while pulling a full freight train. I love my job.

This is what happens when a turbo that comfortably spins at 18,000 rpms looses oil pressure at full bore and goes haywire.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Flat out, In-N-Out is the best product for the dollar ANYWHERE! You can't buy meat at the store as good as we make it. Good luck finding beefsteak tomatoes like we get fresh every other day. You can't get a fresh-er fry either. Add this to customer service that is second to none, a clean environment, and a truly stand-up company that is used as a business model by some of the top companies to work for in the country, suddenly you realise that yes, this is the best burger in the world...

I'm not trying to hi-jack this thread.I've never had an In N Out burger, but I think Portillo's which are everywhere in the Chicagoland area could give them a run for thier money. And if you want to talk about customer service, you can't come close to the service from Portillos.

We have Portillos here now too. They have awesome chili dogs....but their burgers don't even come close to In N Out. How much does Portillos pay their employees? In N Out pays double the minimum wage and gives benefits.

That sounds alot like my daily grind except you wake up earlier and I watch Family Feud instead of Judge Mathis.

Re: The 9-5. The Daily Grind.

Automotive machinest, AKA engine builder. Been at the same place for almost 20 years. Started my Junior year of high school. I do everything that has to do with the short block machining wise. I assemble all the motors. This week I put together a jeep 134 flat head. I have a 400 pontiac on the stand waiting for a rear main seal before going to gether to eliminate that stupid rope seal. NO LEAKS!!!

I'm a constuction superintendent for a large commercial general contractor. I supervise jobs up into the $20 million range. We build mostly schools. I guess it's my payback for being such a lousy student and being expelled for life from my local high school.
