Funny story thought I'd share....

Well, I don't know how close any of you have looked at my truck in previous posts (and I'm still a newb to this group) but take a look at these pics.

Take a good look around the small rear window and at the rear fenders. You'll notice that there are quite a lot of dents and even fire scars! (I swear, not my fault, it was the P.O.)

And you may ask, why the fresh coat of paint?

Well you see, this is a daily driver and I wanted it out of comission as least as possible, but comfortable none the less. So I did the body work on the interior, ordered glass and rubber, and gave specific instructions on only painting the interior and the window lips. That way I could put in the glass and have a good rust sealer (a.k.a. the fresh paint).

Well, half of the staff at "the paint shop" did not speak English. So they show me my truck and apologize for accidently painting the entire thing.

Now I, being a teenage bagboy with sh!t for salary, was grinning from ear to ear. My outside got painted for free! And since I realized it'd be along time before I was ready to do the exterior body work (and winter fast approaching) it was practical for my situation. Granted, when I go to fix the body, I'll have to grind off the paint. But I was not complaining. That was a free $500 paint job. Even with the numerous dents, they're hard to see from afar and the blue looks much better that rusty-primer grey.

Dude that is AWESOME! If I did not actually see the truck in the pictures I would not have believed such a far fetched story...Too funny. That is a much better sealer than the primer thats for sure.

Only bad thing is now you have to tell everyone that asks...A Loooooong azz story about how it came to be. Just say you bought it that way from the previous owner.

Mike

Oh Jeeze, you wouldn't believe some of the stuff the PO did to this truck.

First thing I did was peel all of the rotting berber carpet off of the dash face. They actually took pieces of house carpet and GLUED it onto this beautiful blue dash. It was the original paint, but it looked decent!

The exhaust system was clinging on by a hose clamp....

The overflow bottle was wired via coat hanger. I mean, this truck was TRASHED.

It's great, looking back and realized how far this truck has come.

And how much farther it still has to go

Dude, That is sooo cool. I'm glad it happened to someone who did not have the cash right now for a paint job. I usually have the kinda luck where I want it painted green & it comes out pink & they still want to charge me. CONGRATS.!!!!!!!!!!

By any chance did you have plywood floorboards and heater hoses made of Bud cans?? lol thats what i found in my truck....along with galvanized steel and mesh wire patch panels. It's almost sad to think how some people "fix" these old trucks

Haha, Northern California. Good guess!

Bud can parts? Wow, that's far out. What are these people thinking when they "fix" things?

Re: Funny story thought I'd share....

The truck I had prior to the one we have now was abandoned at a friend's shop after the PO had used some type of epoxy to repair a GAS line....Gas ate thru the epoxy, caught truck on fire. It melted the windshield, all the wiring and the grille insert...A couple of trips to the local salvage yard and she was up and running. His stupidity was our gain!!!

Re: Funny story thought I'd share....

Love to see other I6's on the board!
My Truck has the same (but bigger, and a little more obvious dents around the window) and also has "fresh paint" over them....PO's crack me up.

Glad to hear it all worked out in your favor, and the shop didn't try to charge you for their screw up!
P.s. GREAT color!!!
