Toggle switch?

There is a switch mounted down below my key hole on the underside of the dash in my 72, and the sad thing is I have no idea what it is for. I've flipped it but nothing ever happens. The guy I got the truck from didn't know either, and I think that the guy who originally restored it passed away. Would this switch be used for something common on these trucks? It's frustrating me that I don't know what this is for.

Re: Toggle switch?

If there are wires connected to it. trace them down. I was working on a truck and it had a toggle switch that the owner had no clue of where it went. So I traced it down and found out it was going to the A/C. compressor clutch. Somebody could have put this in as a poor boy theft deterent. etc.

Re: Toggle switch?

Wonder if the neighbors garage door opens and closes when you flip it?
I had one of those on my burb. I found out it changed the horn. Someone installed a set of airhorns...toggle towards me and push the horn ring, stock horn, toggle away and push the horn ring, air horns.

Re: Toggle switch?

If you have [or once had] aux fuel tank, it could be a fuel select switch.
Or maybe it was for the CB. Position 1 = barefoot, Position 2 = 100 watt linear.

Re: Toggle switch?

I had a toggle switch in mine, but under the dash on the left side of steering wheel. I followed the wires and they went to the heater fan. I ended up replacing the heater controls and now the toggle switch is working for my air compressors as a backup manual on/off feature.

Re: Toggle switch?

I'll follow the wire next time I get home from college. It really stinks being 180 miles from my truck.

Re: Toggle switch?

I had a toggle that was a switch for my a/c. Sucked when you forgot and left it on.

Re: Toggle switch?

Might have been put there by PO to make every body who got in the truck to wonder... I wonder what that switch does?
