Any Mac users?

Just got my first Apple, pretty happy with it so far. Just got fed up with Windows, plus I just really like the solid aluminum laptops Apple has. I just got a 17'' MacBook Pro, and this things a tank! By far the most solid feeling computer I've ever put my hands on. Sure, there are a few things I would change about the OS, but nothing major.

Any other Mac users? Good experience? Bad experience? Let's hear it!

Re: Any Mac users?

I use both PC's and Macs. I tend to prefer PC's though. Going out in a bit to pick up a Macbook for a Christmas gift for one of my girlfriends kids.

Re: Any Mac users?

I use a 24" iMac. 2.66 Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, 640 GB HDD, the base model earlier this year. As far as I'm concerned I will never buy another Windoze PC. Granted, I own like 10 of them, so I'll never be totally Mac . It drives me nuts to use my laptop which has more RAM and a faster processor running Vista x64 (I know, a big part of the problem.). It's so painfully slow compared to the Mac. My next purchase will be a Macbook for sure.

Re: Any Mac users?

Been a Mac user since about 1991 and love them. I own a small consulting company and have to write often very long reports with lots of pictures and maps - the Mac rules. We have 4 or 5 of them in the house but nobody touches mine - mainly because of my work but mostly because they have their own.

I remember when Mac's came out they said "Mac's are for dummies" so I signed up. Some of us not so young guys had to learn the hard way - by trial and error.

Re: Any Mac users?

Right now I'm still surfing just fine on my iceBook. Mine was the third off the line after the initial "gift to the schools" promo when this design first came out. That makes this a computer that's still useful and compatible with supported technology after 9 years in service.

Re: Any Mac users?

There's no other option for me really, I absolutely abhor anything windows. Unfortunately I have to use a pc from time to time at work and although it's a slow process, I'm slowly converting the others at work.
Best of all though, my latest Mac purchase, coming in at only 6.5" x 6.5", make the Mac Mini the perfect candidate for Mac/K10 install!
Here it is removed with my custom rack mount, easy slide-in, slide-out procedure.

Nice! What are you using that for?

On a side note, I have to use Windows for work and was using my old laptop with Windows XP, which sucked busting it out every time I needed to do work stuff, so I got a copy of Windows 7 and installed it using boot camp on my Mac. Works like a charm! I friggin love this thing!

Using it for??...you know, the usual things, world domination, the "cool dude" effect, giving my lady something to do while I tinker under the hood <--important!

The serious version;

It will be nice to access the web, anytime, almost anywhere. For the hell of it and I'm a field tech servicing HP systems so having the access for web/vpn etc. will be very nice. I've setup my iPhone for tethering (works excellent btw) and I'll be installing an 8 or 9" touchscreen.
I'll also have it setup to sleep when I turn off the truck with a limit (about 3 days) then it will automagically shutdown to preserve my battery. When I start up the truck, booom, right out of sleep mode! Cool sh1te!! I love technology.

Also, full GPS, so If someone decides to take it (foolish mortals) I can log onto the web and see exactly where it is!

Re: Any Mac users?

Wow. That's some cool stuff there

I'm definitely getting an iPhone when I get back to the States. I wanted one before, but was stuck in a contract.

I don't know what it is about Apple, but I feel a need to own everything they make

You may be onto something there Tim... two corporations that build quality tools. I do have a Mac in a cabinet next to my truck (great reference tool, although that damn white keyboard sure didn't stay clean for too long!) and the tool box is not too far away... hmmm... build in a custom monitor with a few terabytes, 30 or so gigs of ram... damn, the ultimate tool box!

*** Welcome the iToolbox! - now with ratcheting mouse!! ***

Betcha Apples gonna want to buy out a certain tool company in the near future!!

Re: Any Mac users?

I have now had my iPhone for a couple of months and really love it but I was just reading up on the newly released iPad.

Now that would look nice mounted in an old truck dash or on some sort of stand in my work truck (08 Toyota Tacoma).

I was playing with a GPS application I downloaded - for $2.99 - for the iPhone today when I was out in the field at work and it really amazed me. All it needs is a higher definition camera and I could chuck my GPS, camera & compass from my field work vest.

I can't imagine having the iPad mounted in my work truck.

Gotta love them Macs.

Re: Any Mac users?

What is your guy's take on the iPad? I just got the email about it's release and skimmed over it on Apple's website. Didn't read too in-depth on it. It looks like it is just an oversized iPhone without the phone part, or maybe and oversized iPod Touch with 3G. Maybe a cool guy version of all these little netbooks that you see nowadays. Cool nonetheless. It would be badass mounted in the dash. Hmm, something to consider.
