Check out what I finally drug out of the field
1967 big back glass longbed. 327 3 spd with what I think is a saginaw overdrive married to the 3 speed. Truck has some CST hints like chrome glass trim, full gauge package, chrome pedal bezels, and 1 door has a CST emblem and a blingin factory steering wheel. Heres the best part. with a fresh set of plugs and a kit in the Qjet, she fired up and idled on the second revolution. Someone has previously swapped an HEI in it and I did have to put a decent tank out of one of my parts trucks. That along with new rubber fuel lines and I can drive it around just like it hadn't been parked for 13 years. Thats right, it has been parked in the same spot in my possesion unmolested for 13 years.
It does foul 1 plug every third or fourth time I run it, but I am completely blown away by how hard this crust bucket runs. Tire smoke into third gear hard!!!! In all my years of fixing, buying and trading, this is the 1st 327 that I have had that ran. Is this bad boy just a freak or do most 327's run this good??? |

Re: Check out what I finally drug out of the field
Wow! Gotta love trucks like that. I have a friend who's got a '68 C20 which hasn't been driven since before 1990 (shoved in a barn), he went home and it started right up.
Can't kill 'em! BTW, you wouldn't want to get rid of that OD tranny, would you?

Cool truck, and welcome to the board! Those 327's are getting pretty rare these days too.

Re: Check out what I finally drug out of the field
I had one that was field stored too for a long time, I did basically what you did, put a new fuel pump and lines to the carb with a 1/2 gal glass jar on the side, hit the key and it started and ran, I was totally surprised! So I jerked it out of the wreck and put it into my 65, ran it for years.

Re: Check out what I finally drug out of the field
You might be looking at an engine swap there. The valve covers and intake are at least 68 or later. 67 would have an oil fill pipe in the intake and no holes in the valve covers. Of course these parts will swap onto an earlier engine. If you can get the casting date off the top of the block behind the intake, this would verify the year for certain.

All my buddies keep trying to get me to "work " on it, but I want to leave it just as is and sneak it out to the race track and blow the doors off of someone that thinks they have somethin' !!! I particullarly love the lettering on the passenger door that makes it look like a work truck. |

Re: Check out what I finally drug out of the field
I'd drive it like it is. My wife and son wouldn't ride around with me, but I'd have a lot of fun watching everyone look at it in disgust while I cruised on by.

Re: Check out what I finally drug out of the field
One of my cars is a 49 chevy coupe. In 5 years my wife has ridden in it once. And it's all one color. But apparently it's loud and smells bad. It gets mixed reactions on the street as this truck would as well. Nothing better than a beater that will light the tires up at will. Looking at the pics again. I'd move one of the hubcaps to the back and paint one of the black wheels white then scuff the paint up a bit. Too many wheels match and both hubcaps on the front looks on purpose. And the sad part is I'm not kidding.

Re: Check out what I finally drug out of the field
Now you know why there is such a cult following to the 327.
The 327 is my favorite small block Chevrolet engine, and in my opinion it's the best damn small block ever made.
