Thinking of a change to power steering
thinking hard about doing it and have a couple questions.
#1 have heard about varable ratio's, anybody done it and the out come? #2 don't want to go with used unit, figure they would be just as sloppy as what i've got now. #3 can i use my pittman arm off the standard steering? Thanks for any input. |

Re: Thinking of a change to power steering
What year truck - keep your old unit (it's worth $ as a trade in on a rebuilt). Not sure what you mean on variable ratio. After '77 or '78, not sure, the stop to stop number of turns on the steering wheel was reduced, and those will work in our trucks.

Re: Thinking of a change to power steering
Fairly easy switch over - lots of threads on this. do a search on power steering conversion or look in the FAQ's.

Re: Thinking of a change to power steering
Ram assist if you want something cool and aren't adverse to a more complex installation or proper rebuild with upgraded gaskets to avoid leakage. If you want an easier cheaper install don't use ram assist.
