Need help with 8-lug custom wheels
Can anyone give me advice with what they did for after market wheels for thier 8-lug wheels. I have a 1972 3/4 ton 2-wheel drive and would like to get 16" - 18" polished alloy wheels, but I'm having trouble locating any type of selection. Any help or links would be welcome.

Just get a magazine and check the tire & wheel ads.Maybe check a 4wd mag like 4Wheel & Offroad.There`s 4WheelPartsWholesalers,NTW,and TiresInternational.Most everything in those ads is available in 8-lug.

It has been my experience that there are very few choices that are resonably priced. I researched for about a year and in my opinion there were only 3 choices that would work in my price range.
I was real pleased with stock steel wheels, dog dish center caps and a thin chrome trim ring. Hummer wheels with chevy center caps....you can paint or powder coat them any color you want. The older ford style wheel with the holes on them. Remember.....you can use just about any 8 lug wheel form any vehicle from any age except post 1999 Ford. |

I used the wheels and tires off a HD2500 Chevy. Tons of them around when these guys remove them and put on the serious Bling.

I was about to mention that, late model wheels will have back spacing issues and look like a fat man on a bicycle from behind.
If you actually haul things in your 3/4 ton / one ton 8 lug truck, DON'T use ford/dodge wheels. The trucks use HUB excentric wheels... the center hole supports most of the weight, the lugs/lug nuts only hold the wheel on. Ford and dodge wheels have much arger hubs, and when installed, the lugs are supporting the load. If your truck doesn't haul much weight, then this is a moot point, (a savy pennsylvania inspevtion station may say something though... they are paid to be pricks) but be warned if you to haul. While it is far and few between, we have actually had a few trucks come through our shop where the lugs all broke off flush with the drum, and the wheel was always the wrong style. |

Does anyone know when GM went from 8 on 6.5" by4 3/4" hub to the 5.15 hub and metric?
I am ready to finally go to radial tires and am looking for 16" white steelies.

I have been doing the same for my c-20. You can find wheels like american racing, weld, many others. Just make sure you don't get wide wheels like 10 or 10.5because they can stick out on the fender. You have to look for 9 or 5.5. I found some 20s but they are like couple hundred dollars more than the 5 or 6 lug 20s. g/l

I didn't have any spacing issues on my '67 with the HD2500 wheels and tires. I was even able to use the stock center caps. I did have to get lug bolts off E-Bay because the center cap nuts are metric.

Great stuff, guys. Thanks so far for all the help. Also, knowing what not to do is a big help. I've looked at the Weld Racing's New Hotrod & Custom series, but have to find out if the come in 8-lug. They look to be a little spendy. If anyone is interested, check them out at:

Finally,Weld`s getting back to making some nice looking road wheels.The Outbacks were the nicest SuperSingles they made and they stopped.The Sidewinder is nice,I figured they were next.It seems most 8-lug alloy wheels these days have some kind of poser beadlock mimmick or dimple to make them tough to clean and hurt the looks,IMHO.
I`m not too sure any of those will be 8-luggers,though.

Pete-I got mine on E-Bay. There are several on their for converting. Here is 1 example: E-Bay item#290028600679. May not be the size you need though. The center cap threads are metric while our wheel studs are American.

My C20 came from the previouse owner with American Racing OutlawII's and after reading Longhorn Mans post I checked and found that they are not flush with the hubs!!! the hole is at least a half inch bigger. I plan on hauling my toys so I just picked up a set of OE steelies from RV supply.

Had a DHL truck come in today like this. They have a fleet of mostly ford vans, and a few chevy P/30 grummens, and a few new smaller P/30 SRW Work hoses.
I've been telling them not to put the ford wheels on the work horse trucks but they kept blowing me off. Broke every stud on the left rear, driver was doing 50 MPH when it broke off. He's lucky he didn't roll over or hit anyone else. |

Check 4WheelPartsWholesalers.There have 4 or 5 mfgrs listed with several styles in each.I like vintage on mine,too.
