So in the past i have been searching craigslist etc for 60-66 chevy trucks. More then a handfull have claimed thier truck to 65-66 but had the wrap around windshield. When asked they insist the year is correct. Did i miss something or wasnt 63 the last year of wrap around windshield?????

Yes, 60-63 had wrap around, 64-66 had more flat. 60-62 had torsion bars up front and X frame with 2wd, 63-66 had coil springs up front and a ladder style frame.

The '60-'63 Chevy/GMC trucks had the wrap-around windshield, vertical "A" pillars & were commonly called the "knee-knocker" cab. Another tell-tale sign is the VIN...the '60-'63 Chevy trucks (not GMC) will begin with the digit of the last number of the year, for example "0" = 1960, "1" = 1961, "2" = 1962 and "3" = 1963. Also, the 1964 Chevy trucks (not the GMC) will begin with a "4" in the VIN. Also, the '60-'63 Chevy trucks (not GMC) dash has two humps.

The 4-5-6 Chevy/GMC trucks had the flatter windshield and rear-slanting "A" pillars. The 4-5-6 Chevy trucks (not GMC) had a smooth top surface on the dash, with no humps.

The identifier is the VIN, regardless of what the owner indicates.

Grilles are interchange able and 64-66 have been repoped for a while.
You see many many 60-66 have a chrome 64-66 grille, which is repop.
It make it a bit confusing, if you aren't realy into these trucks.

thanks for the info. Im aware of all the stuff thats interchangeable. Basically what i was getting at is, if a guy claims his truck is 66 chev, and it has wrap around windshield, Then he has changed the vins/ vin plate with from a 1966 chev correct?

If that is the case. someone somewhere in the trucks history did some swapping. It's very common for sheetmetal to be changed randomly due to collision or rust damage. After all, for decades these were just working appliances. Authenticity and correctness didn't matter at all to most owners. When you find something as glaringly incorrect as a wrap around glass on a 64-66 truck however, you need to do some investigating before spending money. There may be legal problems registering the truck if the numbers don't match. For that matter it could well be stolen and had other parts swapped on to conceal it's true identity.

thanks, thats what i thought. I wasnt lookin into buying them, i dont have enough time to fix the one i own now. But i always like to look and see whats out there.

If we all had a nickel for every incorrect statement made about the correct year of these trucks, we would all be rich. One of my favorites is "I know it is a 1966 Chevy, because my grandfather bought it new in June of '66 and he has owned it since...and done nothing to it, but routine maintenance". Only to discover, the VIN tag and the eight alpha-numeric digits on the frame rail don't match and the cab is a '60-'63 wrap-around, knee-knocker cab and the VIN is for a '64, '65 or '66 Chevy truck.

haha, I sent the two adds in my area craigslist emails asking about the trucks. will be interesting as to what they say.
