Re: 1964 4x4 pics from Swap Meet

FYI, a little more info on truck, body panels looked all original, had correct codes stamped in them, original paint, and cold region heater in engine bay. Have more pics if interested.

The old school WARN winch is a nice addition.

Very cool truck. I wonder what the story is on that seat. It's sooo perfect. The wear on the wheel shows lots of use though. It must've had a protective cover put on it when new, or somehow the owner found an OE replacement at the time when he did the custom full floor mat.

Looking at the gage panel, it looks like a tail end '64, the cluster looks like that of a '65 did and the '64s had the round gage faces as gas and temp indicators.

Hey, OEM4ME, I talked to the owner and he said the seat has been re-covered.

This is potentially big news. It looks like the factory standard vinyl seat. I don't think.... scratch that, I know I've never seen one like it prior to this. Can you find out where he got it, and for how much?

Re: 1964 4x4 pics from Swap Meet

I wouldn't doubt that it was SMS auto fabrics. They made a 1966 Vinyl cover similar to this in the exact pattern. I'm going to have them do a 1963 GMC front seat in the standard vinyl . I know there is at least one other shop capable of making these but cant remember who. I think by the time I was done it was about 650.00 installed.

Right air cleaner is not correct, no answer from current owner on why. Speculation -original owner got tired of the original style, thought this type provided better air filtering????????

Re: 1964 4x4 pics from Swap Meet

Quick question. On the 4x4 were the rims typically white, black or body color. I will be going poly turquoise two tone with a white top and I have original white center caps and want to stay as true to original as possible and if I have white wheels and caps should they be the same white? My caps seem to be more of an off white?
Thanks

Re: 1964 4x4 pics from Swap Meet

aotte1 are you one of the three amigos in the last picture? I spoke to those guys at the show.

burbluv, the wheels are supposed to be black like the spare in the box. If the truck was painted two tone, the wheels would then be main body color. The color on the hubcaps is Cameo White unless the truck is painted Pure White, then the caps would be painted Pure White.

The radiator is correct. Both my 65 and 66 4x4s have the larger radiators and are documented. This one does not have a shroud as it was not ordered with the heavy duty cooling option which got you the 4 Core radiator ( same radiator used in V8 Air Conditioned Trucks ). This is my 65 K10 I bought with 17,000 miles .

Not positive but the 64 in question, the engine looks green so it might be a 292 six. All the 292 trucks Ive seen had larger radiators like this one. My 65 is a 230 six .

Re: 1964 4x4 pics from Swap Meet

I have to agree....looks like a 292. Looks like the water pump bypass hose off to the side of the thermostat housing which would not be on the 230 or 250.

Re: 1964 4x4 pics from Swap Meet

Yep, just noticed that to. Reading the Chevrolet data book for these trucks the larger radiator was part of the 292 package or option.

Re: 1964 4x4 pics from Swap Meet

Hey also, several dead give-aways for the 292 were the fuel pump was in the middle of the block, the oil filter is at the front of the block as well, and the valve cover is still painted (in a faded coat) either Detroit Engine Green or GM Alpine Green (the color code for the 292).

I gutted my oilbath air cleaner on one of my trucks and put in a paper element in order to meet emmissions.

False narrative. This 4x4 has the optional 292, note green valve cover. The big 6 ( 292 - more cubes than a 283 ) came with the large air cleaner. The standard 6 ( 230-250 ) came with the small air cleaner
