Hand Crank
There is a special tool for rotating the engine by hand that someone mentioned in another post. I've been told not to just attach a wrench to the crank bolt because when rotating the engine counter clockwise it might loosen.
What is this tool and where can I find it? TIA |

i bolt this to the harmonic balancer to crank the engine by hand// it's easier with sparkplugs out
readily available in the scrap pile with a bit of imagination

There's also a tool, like a socket but round on the inside with a blade and it fits over the end of the crank and the blade fits in the woodruf key slot. They are pretty handy, but of course it's useless once the balancer is installed.

and I need the balancer on, I'm trying to find TDC again. I can not find the groove on the balancer and the gizmo for measuring the advance/retard that attaches to the block is missing.
cdowns idea will work great but I don't have a piece of 1/4" steel plate laying around and with the engine still in the truck it might be hard to get the bolt pattern just right. In another post someone created the link to the right tool on summits web page but the link is dead now. I think that's what I need but I have no idea what its called or what it looks like. |

if you have a pulley that mounts on the balancer the hard work has already been done all u need to do is to imagine how to use it

You know, if you have a old junk pulley, you can use a pipe wrench on it.

I've usually used a strap wrench on the balancer or a socket on the bolt.
