American autowire turn signal
I'm wiring up my turn signals and trying to attach this yankee knockoff that came in a box with the truck. Anyone wired one of these to the AAW harness? I t didnt come with any instructions but I found a diagram online that says...
red- brake switch - I have a brake switch on the firewall under the pedal. is this the hot wire? yellow left front turn green -right front turn brown - right rear turn orange-left rear turn blue and black to flasher relay then to switch feed but I have both flasher and hazard relays on the fuse block The horn wire -black on the column will go to the black on the AAW harness I'm I getting this right? Thanks in advance Last edited by popeyestruck; 08-21-2024 at 12:40 PM. |

Re: American autowire turn signal
Most every wiring kit in existence uses a standard GM wiring color code system. The same colors that have been used since GM started using color coded plastic wire. That is a good thing because it really cuts down on confusion when wiring lights or starting system or what not.
I save every aftermarket turn signal switch wiring diagram I find here in my Photobucket albums https://photobucket.com/u/mr48chev/a...6-c3c4d37a1b04 This might be it but can you post the photo of that page without the wiring on top of it so we can read it.

Re: American autowire turn signal
I think the video shows how its done starting at 1:09 to 1:53. My fuse block has a flasher built in so it only allows 1 connection at the plug https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_YUxSkRXkU

Re: American autowire turn signal
Yuppers, the horn wire has to go up through the column to the horn button or to a horn button.
That video does a great job of explaining things. I'd have a full page written up to put down the details of what he said. I'd say that you are on the right track As far as the 3 prong flasher, you need that if you want the lights on the switch to flash rather than the indicator lights in the dash if you indeed even have indicator lights in the dash. That means that you have to bypass the flasher in the fuse block (OR) use a male spade terminal and take the power for the three prong switch off the hot side of the flasher plug. That lets you use your turn signal fuse in the fuse block. Plus no extra where do I hook the power wire to question You can still find flasher holders that fasten to something under the dash to keep the flasher from hanging down. The vendor wants too much for shipping on this one but that lets you see what you are looking for.

Re: American autowire turn signal
So if I wire it just like the picture I posted from the video It will work but the indicators on the switch wont flash? Thats no problem . I dont care if they dont. Am I correct doing it the way I posted? Yeah it is a good video. I hate wiring and it made sense to me

Re: American autowire turn signal
Yes, the one you posted won't let the lights on the switch flash. If you have installed indicator lights on the dash and hooked them up right they will flash. Otherwise you won't have turn or hazard indicator lights. When I worked in a parts house we stocked some flashers that played Elvis's Love me tender and I think notes from some other song. I wish I had bought a couple of them .
I see that they are still sold but it says they aren't very loud.

Re: American autowire turn signal
At the price I'll probably pass on them now too. they were about 4 bucks back then.
Good to see that it is going together for you.
