crossmember

does anyone make or sale dual hump crossmembers, the ones to where you can run dual exhaust without having to go under on one side, and above on the other, i need one cause these headers when trying to hook up the exhaust hit it, so it won't bolt up

Someone on here was making x members that would clear duals. That was about a year ago, so I don't know if he finished them or not.

75stepside good idea i think i might do the same mod i like it better that way b/c it appears to be removed easier than the old one seeing how all you have to do is unbolt the bottom bar (seven bolts counting the tran mount) if this is correct please let me know if there is anything i need to look out for before i do this to my truck i really like it thanks 86 gmg

You could also just get a 73-74 trans crossmember that looks just like the one 75 stepside made.

This is my stock one 3rd from the left:

Found one of it installed:

I just got one from a 75 with an SM465. Direct bolt in with tons of exhaust clearance room.

You probably could remove the cross member as you have stated, although i think you'd want to remove it completely and it would not be that much more difficult.

The only drawback to doing the mod as i have is #1. I had to grind off one E-brake cable guide (although its not too hard to fab one up and bolt it on the frame. #2. If I recall correctly, I had to drill 2 holes in the drivers side frame... no big deal, but it had to be done.
